Adam Thompstone returns from long-term injury and summer signing Nephi Leatigaga is in line for his Leicester Tigers debut in Saturday’s trip to face Bath Rugby in the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Experienced wing Thompstone, in his eighth season with Tigers, plays his first game of the year after recovery from a knee injury which ended his 2018/19 season early.

He is joined in the Tigers back three by Jonah Holmes and Jordan Olowofela, who both scored tries in last Friday’s Round 2 win over Exeter Chiefs at Welford Road.

George Worth and Joe Thomas team up at centre, with former England Under-20s internationals Tom Hardwick and Ben White at half-back after both appeared off the bench last week.

Tatafu Polota-Nau makes his first starting appearance of the campaign at hooker, with Harry Wells and Tommy Reffell returning to the starting pack.

Calum Green, who returned to the club this summer, leads out the team as captain.

Samoa international prop Leatigaga is included in the squad for the first time since his arrival from Biarritz in the summer and scrum-half Harry Simmons is also in line for his first appearance of the season after being named alongside fellow academy graduates Sam Costelow and Freddie Steward on the bench.

Tigers are back on home soil in Round 4 when Northampton Saints are the visitors to Welford Road in the opening derby day of the season. Tickets are on sale now from the Tigers ticket office. Book in person, by phoning 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or online.

Good mix of youth experience and players returning.

Green’s leadership qualities obviously rated by the coaching team

Will still be on the pitch providing leadership and helping Green.
His age must stand against him, or maybe he doesn’t want it

maybe they feel the captaincy would burden Thompson, if so leave him be to lead by example

I wonder why we haven't seen Taute and Vijeon's yet? I would have thought they would be starters in the premiership until the world cup boys are back playing, but then you would have thought they need game time and time to gel with the rest of the team :smt017

Probably niggles holding back Viljoen and Taute, good team, let’s hope Green renews the coaches faith, hoping for a good win!

Agree more than likely niggles. Not worth risking anybody at this stage. Hopefully see them come in for next week.

Not sure if we’re just holding back before the season starts in earnest. The final PRC squad will be interesting but I wonder if the centres will feature Eastmond/Taute/Viljoen as a dress rehearsal for R1 of the Prem?

Had a nice chat with EW and JT at the riders tonight. EW is looking to be fit for the Stains game and JT maybe the week after. I’ve had a couple of sherry’s, but one said they had broke a bone in their hand, hence the lack of involvement so far.

EW, JT??? Who are you referring to? Not all users are familiar with the players by initials.

Thanks

Riders are Leicester Riders Basketball team

EW = Ew Viljoen?
JT - Jaco Taute?

Like you I think using the initials is confusing. We have 3 players with the initials JT and no players with the initials EW!

Apologies about the initials. EW was a giveaway.

However, anyone with a connection to Leicester will (should) know about the Riders!
