You really think Ben Youngs won't feature in our strongest 23? He's nailed on to start in the big games because he is demonstrably the best scrum half at the club - hopefully Mele will work with him to get him up to speed with the new game plan after he returns.

Playing behind that pack (on paper at least!) should bring out the best in young Ben.

From my perspective DD, I was going off what I would do more than a prediction. I’m open to changing my mind about Youngs but to me he seemed like one of the players who last season didn’t care of the mess we were in because he knew he was going to play for England regardless.

Reid covering 10 as realistically we won't sub Ford unless he's injured or we're comfortably ahead and he needs a rest. Either way Reid is able to step up with Taute and Holmes offering more options off the bench than a McPhillips plus A N Other would. Thompstone in the backline because he's a rock defensively and comes off his wing to support the 10 well (our wingers lacked both of those things last season).

Not included Denton because it's unknown when he'll play again. Unsure if we'll see Kalamafoni on the bench, the more versatile and mobile Coghlan might prove more handy.

What do you think Leatiaga will be moulded as, loosehead or tighthead?

Currently our other loosehead options are:
  • Bateman
  • Genge
  • Gigena
  • Hills
  • Lines
Which will probably mean they might view the Samoan as a tighthead?

For me Kalamafoni is a player who either starts or doesn’t play at all, he is a great player but doesn’t offer too much impact off the bench in my view.

I do so very much agree. Ben's attitude seemed like he couldn't care less, so he needs to buck his ideas up. Very lazy for us last season. :smt018

I think I'm right in saying he plays both sides so is quite handy. If everyone is fit I'd assume tighthead because that way there is a lot of impact coming off the bench with him and Bateman. Otherwise it's one of Cortes or Heyes. Cortes does all the basics well but outside of the set piece you aren't going to notice him much. Heyes does carry pretty well but he's still only 20 so there's plenty for him to work on and his displays were a little varied last season (expected as he learns the job at senior level).

Depends whether you want I suppose. He's not going to come on and make line breaks and offloads to break the game up. If you want someone to come on to help see a game out he'd be pretty ideal in that he'll carry and tackle a lot and reliably as he'll be fresh. If you are camped in the opposition 22 bringing him in to hammer the defence is a nice option.

Opposition and weather dependent I suspect. I think he played a little at lock towards the end of his Glaws stint. Could we see him cover lock and 8 from the bench?
