Blake is leaving at the end of the season as advised many times on this board!
To me he has wallowed through the season with no input to a better defence so let him go asap. :smt067 :smt067

Ok but like I said, that was an example.

I really like Graham Rowntree but what has he done to deserve being considered. England’s pack struggled when he was coach despite the talent available and Mahler and Sinckler, who Rowntree coached at Quins have only really improved since Jones ( Welsh prop) has coached them.
Let’s hope The Board do have plans to put an effective coaching structure in place before the end of June.

To be fair Rowntree joined a doomed coaching team at Quins. Going from O'Shea's prior achievements to a team that was faltering under O'Shea when he left to being overseen by a new DOR who really never looked like he should have been in that position.

Rowntree has coached the Lions on the last two tours and we did pretty well in both of them. His time with England was a mixed bag, the Burgess fiasco combined with the home world cup farce will always put a negative spin on what was otherwise a decent restructuring job. Lancaster and co had probably taken England as far as they could.

I hope the board have already drawn up plans for the new coaching team and are planning to announce them at the end of the season. We shouldn't be waiting until the summer to be looking for people.

And don't forget Lancaster ludicrous decision to take all his forwards to Denver and completely depower them!

Head coach for me has to be Rowntree, would bring Tigers back to being more forwards oriented. He’s coached the last Lions tours so is obviously good enough.

I would keep Mike Ford, he can do defence and is an experienced coach to have around if Rowntree wanted him. Need an attach coach, wish we could have Vesty but that isn’t on the cards.

If Rowntree is the Head Coach, are you having Murphy as DOR? If so, it would be Murphy who would choose the coaches.

Unless you're getting rid of Murphy which means more upheaval which is exactly what the players have said has been part of the problem.

Some players are part of the problem and in particular those that conspired to get shot of Cockers! As for Roundtree what has he actually achieved apart from yes you guessed it being an Ex Tiger ??? I simply cannot understand not only the clubs obsession with employing Ex Tigers but also the supporters who seem brainwashed by this old boys association practice. If our great club is to return to the top of English rugby them this jobs for the boys cash cow conveyor belt must end!

Geordan will be moved into a DoR role, with an experienced Head Coach coming in.

I really hope we get rid of Bakewell and Blake, I genuinely see absolutely no benefit in what they bring to the squad.

Really should add thats just what I expect to happen. If Bakewell and Blake aren't replaced, and the only change is Mike Ford in a full time capacity I will genuinely consider handing my season ticket back. The club haven't taken coaching appointments seriously (IMO) since we brought in Meyer and O'Connor. Now, we really need to.
So who would you bring in and what structure would you have?
Geordan to DoR.
Head coach would be either Shaun Edwards or Graham Rowntree; both available after RWC.
If Shedwards:

Head Coach/Defense: SE
Forwards/Line Out: Paul O'Connell
Scrum: Boris Stankovich
Backs/Attack: Mike Catt
Breakdown/Assistant Coach: Brett Deacon
Assistant Coach: Anthony Allen

If Wiggie:

Head Coach/Forwards: GR
Assistant Coach/Line Out: Louis Deacon
Scrum: Boris
Defense/Breakdown Joe Worsley
Backs/Attack: Mike Catt
Assistant Coach: Anthony Allen

Both structures in need of a head of analysis and a new, experienced Head of Conditioning.
Not sure I get the logic.

All but Deacon and Allen are vastly more experienced than the DOR.

The Welsh Rugby Union and Shaun Edwards have confirmed he will depart when business in Japan later this year is concluded.

So, that's step one........ :smt003

DoR

Head Coach

Attack / Skills / Backs Coach
Forwards / Lineout / Breakdown Coach
Defence Coach
Scrum Coach

Theoretically, based on the level of experience of some of the specialist area coaches, you could do away with the Head Coach role, absorbing the tasks within the other roles. If we appointed guys like Edwards, Ford or Rowntree in the attack, defence or forward roles, there’s probably less need for head coach too.

I prefer the option of going for coaches who have gone outside their comfort zones to gain coaching experience. Perhaps less proven or experienced options, but still a broad rugby exposure.
On that subject, it’s good to see Brett Deacon broadening his skillset spending time in NZ.

O’Gara could’ve taken the easy option as a Munster legend, and joined the coaching setup there, but credit to him he went to Racing instead, and now Crusaders, to gain experience in two very alternative rugby cultures.
Likewise, Geoff Parling has taken in a player coach role in Japan and now a forward coach role at Melbourne after playing Super Rugby there for a season prior to retiring. He gets huge praise from Rob Baxter for his analytical skills and understanding whilst at Exeter.
Milton Haig gets a lot of interest on this forum, coached a couple of sides successfully in NZ, plus assistant roles with Maori and age grade NZ sides, now in charge of Georgia. More experienced than the previous two.

If France weren't interested I'd say we have a chance, if they are serious they are going to be offering money we simply couldn't match

Why would Edwards even think about us?! France are a basket case at present but looking from the outside it finally seems that they are about to sort things out and if they start playing like their clubs are a serious threat to everyone plus they are hosting RWC2023.

4 years in France, does a good job, double bubble as a club DOR anywhere. As RC will in a year or two, and CO'S.
