So many top quality coaches on the move this season and yet we'll go for the cheap options.

I say this largely out of frustration. We are not being linked with a backs coach, which suggests that will remain as Geordans remit who has shown over 5 years that as a coach, he is not able to get it through to the players. The only forwards coach we've been linked with is Borthwick, who I dont understand why he'd turn down Wasps.

We desperately need real investment in our coaches. I know we keep getting told that the playing budget is separate from the business budget, but surely that playing budget needs to be increased to afford quality coaches?
What’s so special about Wasps that he’d want to join them?
I imagine Borthwick wouldn’t want to be simply a forwards coach at a club. He would want to be head coach in the same vain as Gustard at Quins.

Sorry, should proof read more. I meant to write "why he'd turn down Wasps to take a similar job at Tigers." Will edit now. :smt023

Exactly. I'm not sure he'd want to do a role where he has to answer to someone else, i.e Geordan as DoR.

I'd love to see it, I'm just highly doubtful.

Even with a DOR, as head coach he would have full control of the team and playing style. Seems to work very well for Gloucester with Humphreys and Ackerman. Even he had gone to Wasps, Dai would have remained head coach.

With Blackadder gone - Hooper as DOR whats the betting Borthwick reunites with Barff.

If not, and as stated, he is tempted to Tigers, will he be the best fit?

Has M Ford a role in tempting Borthwick?

More questions than answers in the speculation stakes..........

According to their website hes DoR so had though Borthwick would have gone in as Head Coach.

It's so glaringly obvious that Tigers need a top class coach to work alongside Ford, and as Borthwicks pedigree fits perfectly the board are going to have to make a serious offer or lose what little credibility they have left regarding employing the right (ie the best) coaches for our club, whether it's Bortwick or someone else.

Borthwick would be the best fit. Forwards coach that specialises in the lineout. We have the players, we need someone to forge a pack that works as a unit.

This coaching structure would be a serious statement of intent by the club. Backs Coach left intentionally blank because we dont' appear to have that role in our current structure, aside from wrapping it up as part of Geordan's position.

DoR: Mike Ford
Head Coach: Geordan Murphy
Forwards Coach: Steve Borthwick
Scrum Coach: Boris Stankovich
Defence Coach: Shaun Edwards
Backs Coach: [_____________]

I'm 99.9999999% sure Shaun Edwards is not coming to Tigers

I am afraid I am much much more certain than that 😁

Ford has verbally expressed his desire not to be a DoR again in an interview on LTTV last season. His main reasoning is that a DoR doesn't coach! which makes Murphy's role more tenable as a DoR, which leaves Ford to do what he does best ie coach to a high level.

Is Ford not looking after attack? People have forgot the crackers scored by Bath in 14/15, that was with Ford & Eastmond in tandem behind a dominant forward pack which is hopefully what we’re going to be having next year.

Ideal structure for me and let’s keep the coaching team small:

DOR- Murphy
Head Coach - Borthwick
Attack and Defence Coach - Ford
Scrum - Stankovich

That's similar to what I thought it would look like when I heard Borthwick linked. Murphy clearly has a vision of how the team should look and be playing. Getting some experienced coaches on board to make that happen is key. A smaller coaching team might be beneficial in the short term as it's a big rebuild job and we need to focus on some key areas so that we can hit the ground running next season.

We'll be missing a few with the RWC as well so structure will be key.
