This is what happens when clubs are not run correctly and as businesses and why they need to whatever they can do generate income- such as build a hotel.

People may slowly start to realise this.

Then again, perhaps not with some people on here!

That makes no sense.

The hotel will generate income and revenue underpinning the club activities and does not affect the clubs rugby activities.

All professional sports clubs need to generate surplus income to the fortnightly spectator revenues (combined with annual season ticket sales) no matter what size they are.

The lack of business acumen and wider strategic planning away from the playing side is the reason the vast majority of clubs struggle financially not the opposite.

So any Scarlets or Ospreys players we could target?

Honestly don't see them keeping the eligibility requirements once Gatland goes.
Reckon they will follow the SA point of call more.

Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

Four Welsh regions - now to be one in the North seems to be the plan. Based at a 16,000 capacity stadium in Rhyl.

According to the local paper, yes.

Apologies, story reference seems to have disappeared.

Been doing the rounds for a while, various mergers have been proposed.

More recently Scarlets and Ospreys.

Truly bizarre, such a shambles.

Of all the regions to merge they pick the two strongest with biggest traditions and history. Surely it would make sense to merge Newport and Cardiff?

Yep, at least Newport and Cardiff don't have the gross history that there is between Llanelli, Swansea and Neath. Frankly, the WRU has done wonders in totalling rugby in S. Wales. Remember Maesteg? Neath nearly gone.

IMO this is creating a Leinster, purely to fuel the national side, an alternative to central contracts alone, that can challenge the top in Europe.

In some ways yes, however, Cardiff are "untouchable". For the money that has gone into them, as a club and region, over the last 20 years they have woefully underperformed. When the old club looked like being relegated, relegation was "removed" that season. A short while after the regions were created, they were all told to drop the names of the towns/cities were they were based from their official name. All bar one did, what a surprise, the Cardiff Blues. And we moan about Sarries.

Which leaves only Ospreys and Scarlets as a geographically meaningful merger. As the grounds are only around 15 miles apart, it shouldn't be too much hassle to go to the "other" ground. However, if the supporters of the old clubs haven't taken to going to their local region, I can't see them going to the ground of the "enemy" down the road :smt044. I know a fair few people from Llanelli, including my father-in-law and brother-in-law (Llanelli born and bred), who aren't keen on going to the Liberty even for an Ospreys v Scarlets match.
