Re: The Derby Round v Northampton - Premiership Rugby Cup
If the game finished 26-20 which was the score after 70 minutes I think the reaction would have been very different. To be in touching distance with 10 minutes left was very good from the young lads and by the sounds of it was only the bench which had next to no experience that weren't quite up to speed.Knightonian wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 5:55 pm Everyone before you judge the result look at our bench they are not next years future many are playing only their first senior game.
We played our development and academy players and they played people like Gibson and Barrow who last year would have been our firsts.
When you think of it like that we played to develop and compete and it looks like they’re doing both.
Hopefully they'll go back and build on that with the academy and development team and be stronger for next season.

Think a few people could do with reading Black Box Thinking by Matthew Syed.

For those who saw the game, who played well? Did anyone make a name for themselves?
I saw Marika Vunibaka play

Fred Tuilagi got the fans fave on the app. Is he improving? Assume he did have a decent game today?

22% possession - tough sledding for the lads today.
Saints needed a bonus point win and selected their team accordingly.
You could argue that at the moment every game counts, that Tigers need to do whatever it takes to try and get some momentum and dig their way out of the slump, and that the psychological impact of yet another defeat for the club is exacerbated at such times.
However, GM stuck to the spirit of the tournament, had a good look at certain players (and who needed the experience), and the first team squad really will have appreciated the break, with more important battles to come.
I didn't see the game, so can't comment on the late deluge of points. One assumes that an older, stronger, more experienced side finally shook us off and we were spent. Will wait to hear what GM has to say on that...

Bare in mind the Anglo Welsh Cup, where youngsters mostly fell short of expectation, and throw today's result into the mix, and one gets a damn good idea about strength of the overall squad, Sure the lads were up against it today, but Saints too were not a strong team, although more experienced.
Like it or not, we need far greater quality depth

For about 70 minutes the young Tigers did well and got back into the game. Then chased it without the experience of knowing how! Saints bench stronger and their first choice, superb scrum half played scoring twice! Sadly think Heyes went off injured and think he was on crutches at the final whistle.
The real downside was to let 3 tries in at the end but it was not like Wasps last year!!
Keeping the Faith in Geordan.
Oh. Joe Ford was pretty good.

Bummer, Gigena or Bateman is going to have to play tighthead isn’t he? But he has got two weeks to recuperate.Ian Cant wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 7:07 pm For about 70 minutes the young Tigers did well and got back into the game. Fe'ao will play tighthead I presume. Gigena to cover unless Cortes recovers in time.JP14 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 7:44 pmBummer, Gigena or Bateman is going to have to play tighthead isn’t he? Hopefully Heyes crutches are precautionary and he can recover during the down time before the next game.

So Tigers just gave up at the end?
Try count before the end rush was 6-2 I think. Not close in my book.
Valhalla I am coming!
