i understand the reasoning behind it, to stop teams bringing in players to replace under performing registered players, but surely in this day and age of game after game after game, if someone a genuine injury then you should be able to replace them, put in a caveat that once they are fit again they cannot come back into the squad?

It makes the competition a bit of a joke if a hooker plays No.8 due to cuckoo regulations......

I feel for them, it's not the first time they've had problems with an injury crisis in a specific position; they were the first team to have a prop crisis back in 2013 (way before Newcastle this season) and weren't allowed to change their squad back then.
They certainly won't be allowed to now when No. 8 isn't a specialist position

I guess the issue is what is a "genuine injury", there would be teams who try to exploit it. That said I'm surprised there is not an exception for front-row players.
