Scarlets Away advice for away fans

Post by stujoed »

Never been to a game at Scarlets but have seen atmosphere look great on tv. As such we have decided to go and take our lads (10 yrs) to experience it.
We are staying over. Any advice on where to go before and after the game? Which bars in the ground have great atmosphere?

Thanks

We are going on Sat morning - this is our 3rd or 4th visit - only advice I can give is book your evening meal for Sat night when you get there. We have booked for the Thai as our Indian is "relocating", No problem about drinks and fun before the game but we did have to wait some time to get a table last time we went. Took our restaurant off tripadvisor

They turn the "training barn" next to the ground into a huge bar (room for hundreds!) with assorted areas for kids activities at the other end. Lots of standing room and a fair few tables. A bit soulless (which you would expect in a barn) but very noisy and more than adequate. A fair few food outlets outside (external catering wagons). There is a small shuttle bus runs to/from the town before and after the game. Pretty sure details on the Scarlets website. Taxis come regularly to the entrance of the ground after the game for a while - it's a good mile or more to the town centre and not a straightforward route.

There’s a Premier Inn and restaurant a couple of hundred yards from the ground, but will obviously be busy. Used to go to the Halfway House just past the Premier Inn but it deteriorated quite badly apparently. Probably best to avoid. The town centre is a bit run down, unsurprisingly given the economic situation round there. High turnover in catering establishments, so difficult to recommend anywhere. Been going there since 1985 as my late wife was Scarlet through and through. Somehow we managed to get married without knowing we were both big rugby fans :smt003 Practically every time I go down we eat somewhere different, for assorted reasons.

That’s where we ended up as you say quite noisy but under cover if the weather isn’t great. Big crowd 10/11 years ago wouldn’t imagine it will be that full this time around

As Cagey Tiger says good bar area in a warehouse/barn on the South side of the ground, usually a good atmosphere and an area for kids to play.

Shuttle Bus Service

If you prefer, we run a bus shuttle service that stops at several points around Llanelli. Currently, these points are Home Bargains (Station Road) and Dominos/Aldi. The trip usually takes around half an hour but this is dependant on traffic. Our shuttle buses vary depending on Kick-Off times.

Home bargains 15.10 and the every 30 mins until 16.40. Domino's is 10 mins later

Re the weather, this is Wonderful, Wet, West Wales we are talking about :smt005

And it can get very windy.

Oh, and if you have some daylight hours to kill (and the weather is fair), the coastal path is very nice. I have walked along to Burry Port a few times. Tarmac almost all the way and probably the biggest "hill" is for the footbridge over the railway line by Llanelli.
