If that cut was caused by a stud - what else could it have been caused by?, then clubs and referees must ensure before kickoff that no studs have sharp edges to avoid the possibility of a more severe injury.

TBH I was thinking that,what could cause a cut like that. In the old days that would have to be a deliberate forceful rake with old style studs, vicious. Had a few nasty cuts on back and side of thighs, but that's a different league. Suspicious.

Sharp edge of a stud could easily do that with the weight of a player on it. Likewise a piece of glass or even a flint working its way to the surface of the turf.
All seemed innocuous when he went down and seemed rather odd that a player in no major pain needing a stretcher. When I heard them say "Just blood" I assumed they were talking about one of the other players receiving treatment at the time.
However the picture tells its own story. Shouldn't keep him out for too long.

I would very much doubt the appearance of a piece of glass or a flint there as Gloucester's pitch is new and they are the only team in the Premiership to follow Tigers example of pitch composition after their Management requested feedback from the players. Presumably the ex Tigers advised.
