Enjoyed that, despite the frustration at times, thanks for your input. Not even a LBP for stains, on their big emotional day.... was a romp after all, just frustrating that we didn't win by more or look after the ball well enough.Smudger67S wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 2:32 pm Perhaps the players need to look a Tiger fan face to face and hear these home truths.
Saints will romp this, don’t think they can get over pumped for this one. Weather closing in at Twickenham, so probably by do Tigers a favour and limit the lose to only a 20 point differential.
Enjoy the day if you can.
But we'll take our 4-0 win and move on, looking upwards - or downwards to Saints.
Stick a cork in it.

Re: Saints v Tigers
Overcame the weather. Overcame the linesman (IMO) early push at lineouts my Aris... and overcame a Saints team who looked even worse and unorganised than us.
Jonah Holmes MOTM, rightly so.
Lots to work on but 4-0 and a satisfying win if frustrating performance. No clue at the lineout/maul, so many turnovers to Saints, trying the same thing over and over.
Joe Heyes cracking in the scrum. Kyle Eastmond brilliant at the breakdown more than once.
Hard work in defence (well done Brett Deacon...coming to fruition now(?)) on our own line undone many times by brainless carries/decisions.
Great effort by the lads in the weather, foundations to build on though.

The good news? (The only news!) - a win!! And a win vs Saints, and a win away from home!
Just superb, and let's hope Tigers can build momentum from here.
Less good news? Pretty much zero territory and possession. Appalling rolling maul. A bit clueless for most of the game, and some boneheaded decision making.
Fortunately, Jonah Holmes provided a couple of moments of inspiration that Saints couldn't match, and the scrum was very solid indeed.
Most needing work? Well, any number of things, but exiting our third of the pitch might be number 1 (and Mapalangi in particular could do with reviewing the game tape...)

Well deserved Jonah Holmes. A revelation at fullback

In his LTTV interview he was asked what advice Geordan Murphy, Leicester's mercurial fullback gave him.
Reply: "Be good".
He was.

Pleasing result. Ben Kay was saying that he hadn’t seen a team defend like that at line out time and we couldn’t work it out.
Big pluses Eastmond again, Holmes rightly motm great at 15, and Hayes coming on and destroying their scrum, especially after a certain poster on this forum was so critical after the Wasps game.
Negatives, Jonny May shoulder hopefully not too bad, Veianu back next week hopefully to lessen the blow. Denton HIA we really missed him and interestingly Mapapalanga was subbed at the end.

Re: Saints v Tigers
Heyes certainly showed how he can scrum when he has a full pack behind him.
Big unit.
Eastmond is just a menace in defence, considering how much bigger the Saints backs where he pretty much dominated every contact.
By far perfect but at the same time a step forward.

Amazing really, I mean, he's useless.....

I though Mapapalangi was very poor, seemed to have no idea what he was supposed to do in terms of blind side defence. Missed a few tackles and let a Saints player through for a try.Mark62 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 5:05 pm Pleasing result. Re: Saints v Tigers
There is still a pretty clear lack of quality but it's clear these boys are prepared to put in a shift for Geordie and some of the defending today was incredible.
Holmes was excellent as was Eastmond. I thought Harry Wells really took his chance and Manu had his best game for a while from a defensive point of view.
I thought our exits were very poor at times and we invited pressure with some daft plays but we dogged it out and that's a good thing. Shame Saints most potent weapon was Lenny's box-kicking! Thought he had a decent game ball in hand but his kicking was terrible.

I saw Marika Vunibaka play

Tino looked like a player who hasn't played a game yet this season and pre-season.

Re: Saints v Tigers
Good win. Still bits to work on but a nice improvement on last weekend and some much needed bragging rights.
Best game from Youngs and Cole up front for some time. Young Heyes was excellent off the bench. On another day another ref would have rewarded our scrum dominance, we could have had twice as many penalties had JP not just tried to get play going and allowed Saints to drop it or stand up.
Eastmond was top quality and he seemed to manage Manu well in defence where they had the Saints centres in their pockets. Owolofela looked much better on the wing, Holmes great at 15.
Tino didn't look happy to be subbed late on. Right decision though, Lewis looked more reliable in defence. Tino might find himself back in the A team after that display. Kalamafoni looked uncharacteristically flustered as well.
