We need a defensive system that all understand and buy into and we need it yesterday. If we can't get an outsider in quickly then give it to an insider as their sole responsibility whilst we find someone. Ant Allen or Brett Deacon seem the obvious choices to me.
I thought Brett Deacon had been made defence coach (again - after MOC took it upon himself). :smt017
If he is he needs to get his coat and follow MOC out the door....please

I find the coaching merry-go-round a bit a laugh at times to be honest.
Quins new approach is brave with new man Gustard who has also brought in other good men from outside.
When the eyes are tired of looking at the same things then the things that you are looking at look tired.
There will certainly be no hiding places and excuse making with new men.

Chobsy. Brett Deacon has had the job for three matches during which the entire game plan has changed, if defence had been fixed he would be a miracle worker. I agree there is a desperate need to tighten up but it will not happen overnight. We are now scoring at a rate that we never achieved last season as the many posts demanding try bonus points will attest, we now have 3 in three games but apparently at the cost of defence. Give the guy time and he will fix it or if not will be replaced but he must have a fair opportunity to do his new job.

GM has had the role the same length of time and already you can see what he is trying to do and you can see an improvement, unfortunately the defence looks worse then ever

Dorian West has joined Sale Sharks as forwards coach.

Club statement:

"Dorian West has joined Sale Sharks as Forwards’ Coach with immediate effect.

During his playing career, Dorian played at hooker for Leicester Tigers.

He was awarded 21 caps for England after his debut in 1998, and retired from the international scene after the 2003 World Cup Final. Following that success against Australia in Sydney, Dorian was awarded the MBE.

Dorian started his career in coaching with England Under-21 before achieving domestic and European success with Northampton Saints alongside Jim Mallinder.

The Saints were promoted from the Championship in Dorian’s first year at the Club and followed this up with the European Challenge Cup in 2009 and the LV= Cup in 2010. Northampton also reached the Heineken Cup final one year later.

2014 was a golden year, with the Aviva Premiership and European Challenge Cup double.

Dorian, who left Franklins Gardens at the end of last season, said, “I’m very pleased to be here and am looking forward to the new challenge ahead, I have known Dimes for many years and he has given me a great opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”

Sharks’ Director of Rugby Steve Diamond added, “Dorian and I go back a long way and very rarely does a person with his qualities become available. Dorian is a proven winner as a player and a coach and he’ll make a huge improvement whilst looking after the club’s forwards.”

Doesn't matter what our backs do with the ball when every time Warriors attack they found holes in our defence, as do other teams. Just look at the points we've conceded! Defence coaches are sought after, ours is an amateur at best, not his fault but another job for an ex-player...again...!! It's not a skill that's necessarily developed from playing so we need to find the right one. Look at England, whatever we may think John Mitchell has the experience just like Lancaster, Farrell, Edwards etc...Our defence is like a colander with too many holes...

Not so long ago we had laconic Les who fixed the defence, made us nearly leak-proof, but then got the push for being a naughty boy. There must be one or two others like him up for a short-term contract?
In the second half we tried the steadying tactic of kicking deep centre and fixing the defence on halfway, making them concertina up and down, very Sarries This worked, sort of. We need more of that with our new-found attacking brio.
None of this will happen for a while, as we may be down to playing Cov 1sts as our 1st XV as the injury list mounts. :smt009

As we're talking about coaching...

In his programme notes for Tuesday's game with Derby, Mourinho said he was unhappy with some members of his squad.

"The game against Wolves was an important lesson; a lesson that I repeat week after week after week, a lesson that some boys are not learning," he said.

"Every team that play Manchester United are playing the game of their lives, and we need to match that level of aggression, motivation and desire - 95% isn't enough when others give 101%."

Now, there's something that might be worth a spot on the changing room wall!

Two hookers in the same set up. Not sure 2 into 1 goes

So in the LM "Geordan Murphy firmly believes that Brett Deacon is the man to tighten up Leicester Tigers' leaky defence." Lets see if his finger is in the dyke against Sale?

If one man continually charges out of line like a demented lunatic, how on earth are we ever going to be able to sustain a defensive line.
Pointed out time and again by Healey and Co, but every match, the same thing happens..
Result 40 points against..
