Scrapping Matchday Programs
Jersey Reds have stopped selling printed matchday programs as they claim only 300/1500 who watch a game read them. Instead they are going to release the programs online and through social media.

Re: Scraping Matchday Programs
I’d love to know how many remain unsold each week.
I would imagine that quite a few people buy them to get the team line ups but that’s all done on the big screen now.
Makes sense to me maybe replace with a down loadable file that people can print off the day before

I buy one but i'm not really sure why, it's just for the team line ups i think. I barely read the rest of it if I'm honest.
This season I don't think I'll bother.

Re: Scraping Matchday Programs
They are a waste imo unless it's a significant game
Re: Scraping Matchday Programs
Exactly, in theatres when you go watch a show in the West End you buy programs as memorabilia, in rugby it's the same with big games.

Re: Scrapping Matchday Programs
To be frank, they ceased to be of any material interest since George Chuter's column ended once he retired. The rest is PR gumf for the most part. We're moving to a digital age so I can envisage that, one day soon, they will cut down the volume printed and bring in an online PDF version before phasing out completely.
Just my view, of course

So I see my jokey comment has been deleted.
No wonder people are miserable when light hearted comments are now being removed.
Pathetic!

Re: Scrapping Matchday Programs
Guess it would be interesting to know how much Tigers make or lose on them.
If people like them and want them then they should stay with clubs of our size. Get Jerseys position though, in order to break even probably have to charge more knowing you only sell few hundred, in which case you put more people off too. Its harder for clubs with low attendances. See nothing wrong with having it online, in todays society most people have a smart phone - just put the programme online with match ticket and link it somehow - save all the cost of print. Get kids like to get autographs on them though at our level

It's down to how it's read. I even put a winky thumb thing which the moderator told me makes comments come across nicer but it still got deleted by a moderator!

Re: Scrapping Matchday Programs
It comes across patronising tbh
Re: Scrapping Matchday Programs
As I say, it all depends on how the person reading it interprets it.
Re: Scrapping Matchday Programs
Championship and other national and regional leagues are obliged to provide a matchday programme. Presumably Jersey have checked to see that online substitutes are acceptable and that they will not be penalised. The Championship requirements are quite specific with the mandatory location of items such as main sponsors' logos and adverts.
I am neither clever enough to understand nor stupid enough to play this game
