Quality player at his best, shame he was made of glass! I hope he stays in the game, good luck Sam!
Re: Sam Warburton Retires
Thats a real loss always thought he was quality.
I'm not cynical just experienced
Re: Sam Warburton Retires
That's a real shame.
Will be missed by Wales.

Re: Sam Warburton Retires
May I venture that a central contract reduced his game-hardiness and increased his vulnerability? We have all known this happen, how your physical resilience decreases with a lay-off. Playing sparsely doesn't always mean less injuries, especially if re-conditioning involves fat-shedding.
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Re: Sam Warburton Retires
A real shame, genuine world class player & seems a really nice bloke!
A proper captain & leader.
A proper captain & leader.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

You can venture all you like but I'd say it was just one of those things.jgriffin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 2:21 pm May I venture that a central contract reduced his game-hardiness and increased his vulnerability? Re: Sam Warburton Retires
Always a pity when a career is cut short but have to ask as to whether he was as good as the press say he was. In my view no. I ternational class then yes but a great the it has to be a no from me
Hambo :- He was with England when he was injured, but he was a Tigers player, our player. He is still our player.”

Re: Sam Warburton Retires
He wasn't a great no,as Stuart Barnes said. But then he spoiled in the next breath by saying AWJ was!! The "warrior" is probably the northern hemisphere most overrated player ever,I remember the SA lions tour when he was bullied by the SA bogeymen Botha and Matfield and Simon Shaw had to come on and sort things out. The press love-in for Alun is at times cringe worthy and completely unwarranted!
Re: Sam Warburton Retires
Great career but achieved nothing domestically - no league winners nor European Cup.
Re: Sam Warburton Retires
The new deal the Pro14 has signed increases the options as well. It's being produced by Sunset + Vine, who do the BT coverage of the premiership and europe, so there may well be crossover of presenters and analysts.

Couldn't agree more.Rugbyflanker wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 6:19 pm He wasn't a great no,as Stuart Barnes said. But then he spoiled in the next breath by saying AWJ was!! Re: Sam Warburton Retires
The hype around Warburton not being as good as initially thought is gathering a lot of moment and IMO is total bull.
The greatest NH openside of his generation, possibly the best since rugby went pro.
There's some really interesting stats out there about him - only conceeding 0.4 penalties per game on average and only receiving 3 cards in his career (over 300 games).
Take a watch of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbRr8s8DyTE (above stats taken from this video)
