Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2018/19 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part Deux
Headline story "Stanko discusses importance of pre-season preparation". We are still discussing significant recruitment. If we are still recruiting after the start of pre-season then it's not ideal and suggests we are likely to be less effective than we should or need to be in the early part of the season. How many other clubs are likely to be in a similar position.
I'm not cynical just experienced

Most clubs haven't even got their Internationals back in full training.
We still have over 8 weeks.
Jonny May arrived With 2 and a bit weeks left of pre-season pretty much and was our best player at the start of season.
We will have the core of the squad available.

We are still missing 2 heavy duty proven in your face props , 1 nasty top quality lock, two centres and a top notch reserve 15.
Everyone we have bought this season is either a well worn journeyman, or an up and comer..so to speak
Another season of mediocrity awaits, methinks....
Yeh why haven't Tigers signed
Tameifuna, Furlong, Etzebeth, Crotty, Ringrose and Ben smith.

Exactly! Ideally the signings yet to be anounced will arrive at training when the internationals return. However, it’s not the end of the world if it’s only a few weeks before the start of the seasons. May proved that you can come into the team and perform!RagingBull wrote: ↑Thu Jul 12, 2018 8:16 pm Most clubs haven't even got their Internationals back in full training.

There is only one solution and that is to get OW back and buy Eastmond if we can, otherwise we are looking to Owen staying healthy and Hardwick stepping up......possibly OK with thelatter but iffy with the former. We are then still lacking in other areas BUT other teams are not as wonderful as posters are suggesting, all are showing signs of ££ problems except one of the usual suspects.

On Tigers social media there is a picture of two blokes scrummaging together with Stanko overlooking, this picture has no tags and one of those blokes looks like an Islander and has a tattoo on his arm. Our only Polynesian front-rower (TPN) does not have a tattoo on either of his arms....
Edit: Oh wait could be Manu but then again why would he be scrummaging.

If it's the one on Instagram then that looks like Fred

Could be Fred but I thought it was an interesting comment to make, he would have been tagged otherwise and if you go on the caption on the Tigers website/app it details this:
Boris Stankovich watches on as forwards take part in a scrummaging session at the club's Oval Park Training Ground.

Fred was a prop when he was 16 and a lot heavier. He wasn’t very good there either.

Will Bateman be considered back at hooker if TPN is off with Australia for half the season?
Massive shame we couldn't have kept either McGuigan or Thacker with it seemingly looking like Cheika will allow both in his Australia squad.
Tom Youngs, Jimmy Stevens and Harry Mahoney doesn't really fill me with great confidence.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2018/19 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part Deux
Given that there are several candidates ahead of him at number 8 (Denton, Kalamafoni, Thompson etc) and our lack of prop signing announcements following the departure of Cilliers maybe they are converting him back. Could he be any worse than Traynor or Baumann was last season?
Tigers for the premiership and European Cup. Get behind the team and make some noise!!

Tom Youngs the captain and former Lions test player? Jimmy Stevens was in the Championship team of the season. With the AIs they normally take place during the LV or whatever it is now where TPN wouldn't be selected anyway so would be a good time to give the younger lads game time.TTRITH wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 8:17 am Will Bateman be considered back at hooker if TPN is off with Australia for half the season?

If you look at the picture, both players have lifting blocks/straps, so I'd say definitely more about coaching correct body angles rather than actually propping.
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2018/19 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part Deux
Come on, everyone knows Tom isn't the player he was. Joe Ford was the top points scorer in the Championship the year before we signed him!sam16111986 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 8:54 amTom Youngs the captain and former Lions test player? It's not just the AIs though, the Rugby Championship finishes on the 6th October(?), best case scenario is they'd be back on the Monday, play for two weeks, although they'd probably need a rest and then be gone again for 4 weeks. It wouldn't make sense to bring them back to camp for two weeks.
