Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
Had hoped to see him develop into the 12/13 shirt so I'm sorry to see him go.
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Promotes Holmes so that is the upside IMO

Cant really blame Nick going back with rumours we were paying him less than the average full-time National wage.
I felt he passed his trial and in time would've made a solid back-up 13 and Wing option.

Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
MoC said “we understand his reasoning behind returning to Australia and to their Sevens squad”. MoC may understand the reasons but I don’t. No doubt some part of that is personal stuff I don’t have an absolute right to know, but actually I find it all a bit weird - he’s proved himself we are told and imho was worth his place in squad at any rate. What’s going on?
Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
I think like it says it’s his reasons not tigers reasons.
I think it is with an aim of the olympics, maybe he just wants to go back to Oz or has goals in 7s.
I’m not worried, frees up some cap for someone 100% behind the tigers plan

Yeh why would he want to go to the olympics to represent his country?Grimlish wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 1:46 pm MoC said “we understand his reasoning behind returning to Australia and to their Sevens squad”. What possible draw is trying to win an Olympic medal on decent money?
It's pretty damn obvious why he is off back to Aus 7's.

Free's up enough cap to pay for 3 weeks of Manu's wages
Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
Fed up of these uneducated jokes about Manu’s wage, honestly!

Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
Is he really such a big loss? For next season we will have May and Holmes starting. Thompstone has shown he is a more than able back up when needed in the premiership. Plus we have Olowfela and Aspland-Robinson.
So what’s the problem with Malouf leaving? He was a good player no doubt but a bit overrated by some here. Postionally he was awful and never got any better as the season went on. Compare that to Holmes who has impressed whenever he’s put on the Tigers shirt.

Malouf was a gamble signing, of course we weren’t going to pay huge amounts of money!

Re: Winger Nick Malouf off
I doubt very much he was on 30k, though many people would be happy to earn that (it's above the national average). Even as a nobody he's a professional rugby player that moved to the other side of the world, you don't do that for relative peanuts.
I think the Toomua interview the other day was telling, he joked that playing in snow he and Malouf were questioning their life choices. Matt might have decided he could live with that but Malouf maybe not. The lifestyle down in OZ is very different. He might well miss the sunshine, his friends, family, lifestyle and when Australia 7s offered him a chance to return and have a pop at the Olympics that might have been too good to turn down. He's also out himself in the shop window so a the Aussie Super teams will know what he can do at 15s as well.

You cant fault his commitment whilst here, will make a quality 13 if he come back to XV's. Tbh a chance to win an Olympic medal is pretty special so good luck & thanks for you efforts Nick.
Got to love a winger who wraps his head like an old school 2nd row, for those old enough on here shades of Tom Smith.

To win is not as important as playing with style!
