I confess to not being up to date with the rule book but, in my day, a 'hand off' was invariably made with...the hand.

A forearm smash to the throat was reserved for Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo or Giant Haystacks.

Yellow? Red, for me.

These are becoming more and more common and need to be healthier with. It’s a tricky one as it’s a fine line between a hand off and a strike to the head sometimes (although that one was pretty clearly a strike to the throat with the elbow, only thing that stopped it being red was Carter crouched into it. You see a lot of forwards in particular leading into a tackler with a swinging arm nowadays and it is very dangerous.

No question. An elbow to the throat with intent. RED!!
The sooner that players realise that violent play like that is unacceptable, the better.

Far too common frankly, seen several of those in matches both live and on TV. Also the fend with the forearm to the throat during an upright tackle. Still not as dirty as real rugby though....... :smt005
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

You must be referring to Old Rottinghamians 4th XV! (in memory of the late Michael Green)
