Stade Français

Post by Robespierre »

Zut alors!! There is a possibility that Stade Français could be relegated from the Top14!
They lost 33-27 this afternoon at bottom club Oyonnax and are now third from last :

10 Clermont 32 points
11 Agen 31
12 S Français 28
13 Brive 26
14 Oyonnax 22

Their next two games will be difficult - home to Castres (currently 3rd) and away to Racing (2nd).
Look who else in near the drop zone, Clermont, who have lost 5 games on the trot and play La Rochelle at home later this afternoon.

How many teams are relegated? If only one it still looks unlikely but not impossible!

Similar to Saints in our prem! :smt003

Danty would be a perfect signing for us if they go down, but loads of French teams will Ben after him.

true although at 35 next season i can't see him moving. Will either retire or maybe stay a season to get them back up.

Wouldn't mind him at tigers, Smith was 35 whilst at Wasps and was fantastic.

I don't want him,a true true great but a shadow of his former self and Italy's poorest forward so far. Its got to the stage where he needs to retire from international rugby now and go and earn a few quid in Japan.

Perise won't come (shadow of a player now tbh), Mrs P doesn't like Leicester.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

Nor the first wife not to enjoy 'French' in Leicester, I would guess. :smt004

Parisse - good player but has never been as good as people will have you believe. His Italy team mates have made him look good over the years.

If you want an example of pundit and commentator bias, look back at what was said when he threw away an opportunity to beat France 2 years ago by attempting a drop goal at the end of the match. It was easily the most moronic and ego-driven decision I have ever seen on a professional rugby pitch, yet many praised him for it. Bonkers.

No thanks.

Stade Français are by no means out of the woods yet, with regard to possible relegation:

As it stands before this weekend's games :

11th Stade Français 32 points (away to Racing this weekend, so no points envisaged)
12th Agen 31 points (home to Bordeaux and should win with a bp)
13th Brive 27 points (away to Castres so unlikely to come away with anything)
14th Oyonnax 26 points ( home to Toulon and difficult to predict as Oyonnax are on a roll at the moment and could beat
Toulon!)

There rest only five games to play and Brive are home to Agen the following weekend which will be a must win for both.

Stade Français, as expected, lost to Racing 22-28
Oyonnax beat Toulon 29-26!
Castres beat Brive 37-28
Agen, surprisingly, lost at home to Bordeaux 10-15.

So the bottom of the table is:

Agen 32 points (next match away to Brive)
Stade F 32 points ( .. .. home to Toulouse)
Oyonnax 30 points ( .. .. away to Pau)
Brive 27 points ( .. .. home to Agen!!)

Brive must beat Agen to be in with a hope of staying up.
Pau are strong at home and should beat Oyonnax, but an upset is possible
Toulouse are currently third, and having beaten the leader Montpellier yesterday, should beat Stade Français.

There are then four matches to play:

April 7 Agen v Oyonnax!!
Brive v Lyon
SF v Clermont

April 14 Oyonnax v Brive!!!
Lyon v SF
Pau v Agen

April 28 Agen v Clermont
Oyonnax v Lyon
SF v Brive!!!!

May 5 Brive v Bordeaux
Castres v Oyonnax
La Rochelle v SF
Racing v Agen

As Brive have to travel to Oyonnax and SF, sadly, I think they'll go down, but the other side to be relegated is going to go down to the wire.
