I always thought at U20 level Sam was a better prospect than BY, didn't quite pan out that way but he does still have the better pass.
Its players like him in the squad that win you things, not just the marquee players.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

Agreed. He just lacks a yard of pace to be top class.
But his all round game is excellent and he bosses the pack well and as you say has a quick pass and plays with tempo.
Quite similar to how Lee Dickson used to play for Saints. Very effective.

One thing is he always gets stuck in, even if not playing well. Several other current Tigers players don't and just go throughthe motions. Several need to move on at the end of this season.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

Often see him clearing out at the breakdown, whilst admiral does pose the question why is he having to do it?

I'd have thought the answer was clear, often our backow are too slow to the breakdown or awol altogether (BoC excepted) and the second row often just loiter around out of position. Sam choses to go in and try and clear out, he has to do this far too often. Ben's approach is different - he adopts the puppy dog look, waving to the referee, pleading for a penalty approach.

Shazam's shift yesterday was characterised by having to work his socks off, several times attempting clearing out, and then following the game plan of flining it wide regardless - against Bath he used tight passes a lot as we played up the jumper. I think MOC thought we'd walk it against Stains 2nds.

I think the players thought they’d walk it as much, if not more, than MOC
