Jonny May - Aviva player of the Month October

Post by Tigerbeat »

Well done to Jonny May!

LEICESTER TIGERS wing Jonny May has today been named Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for October 2017.

May has been in sensational form for the Tigers this season scoring a stunning seven tries in seven Aviva Premiership Rugby matches and World Cup winner Will Greenwood today described him as an “absolute poacher with jet heeled shoes”.

“Jonny has looked frighteningly fast and hungry for work with a real edge to his carries,” said Greenwood.

“He has added some weight to his wiry frame but not lost any speed – a dangerous combination.”

Greenwood believes May is working well with an impressive Tigers midfield, adding: “Jonny is loving playing outside George Ford and Matt Toomua and is an absolute poacher with jet heeled shoes.”

May was judged by a panel of experts, and was involved in a three-way battle for the latest title, eventually beating Gloucester Rugby’s Henry Trinder and Exeter Chiefs back-rower Don Armand to the title.

May was voted for by a panel of media professionals based on his performances in October – Nick Mullins (BT Sport), Alastair Eykyn (BT Sport), Mick Cleary (The Daily Telegraph), Sarah Mockford (Rugby World), Jonny Fordham (The Sun), Jill Douglas (ITV Sport), Chris Jones (BBC 5 Live), David Rogers (Getty Images) and Tom Hamilton (ESPN). The panel was chaired by Paul Morgan, Premiership Rugby's Communications Director.

May wins a trophy and a £250 donation to the charity of his choice.
