Great game.

Line out still a big problem. Some mistimed jumps, some throws too low so intercepted and why call a long throw to the back as the first throw for a hooker whohas just come on. Do that if everything is working 110% but not in the current situation. It just show future opposition our weaknesses.

However, the first 50 mins showed out strengths.

I was disappointed with giving away the bonus point as it showed poor defence but I can see Castre putting more effort into their back to back games with Racing. This may be better for us in the long run. If it comes down to those points we willbe discussing 3rd vs 4th place anyway.

Toomua’s knee worries me. The physio was doing an anterior draw test on the field to check the anterior crutiate ligament. As they let him stay on it suggests any damage to that was not obvious. With the position of the game at the time taking him off at half time was a good call. Fingers crossed that scans are OK. They can also be tricky to interpete. My son dislocated his knee being tackled and on the first scan the ACL was deemed OK but a follow up check after 4 weeks in a splint for the knee cap suggested some ACL damage. Does Toomua get risked on a plastic pitch? Rest for all AW games?

Mixed emotions for me for what was a cracking game. Great interplay, taking the chances given and working out the spaces and fringes, trys very well taken. Genge awsome!! Yet, the restarts were abysmal, lineouts, even allowing for the wind, poor. Losing Tooma shows the need for another good 12 as most of the plays came of the 10/12 axis. Castre to be applauded for their 'never give up' attitude. the return leg will be a hum-dinger!

That's it then, Tigers are nailed on for a big win against these no-hopers.

Why would we release McGuigan mid season that'd be a terrible idea. He's already ingrained with the squad and playing well. A new hooker would have to learn calls and how is new team mates play.

I suspect Bristol are sniffing around ahead of next season when they get promoted. MOC likes an experienced squad so not surprised he's after some test muscle up front. Shame though as we are well stocked there and the man he's after hasn't she much form in recent times.

Well the first 50 minutes or so were wonderfull but why then take an early bath? Could have cost us dear in a close match.

Genge seems to play better when Eddie J is in the crowd, so we might need to pay him to attend matches.
Front row seemed to be much worse when Cole went off, really need a better back up Tight Head.
Lineouts and Re-starts remain a problem.
I think the box kick is over-used and we give posession back too easily and end up back defending the counter attack.
Concerned if both Matt T and Owen are out although though Tait had a great game at 13, good running lines and distribution even if the gas isn't there.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

Gone into hiding perhaps at the thought of having to applaud so many positives in the Tigers first half performance?

Had to watch that first half again this morning, rugby porn lol! Haven't saw us play like that in forever. Beautiful to watch, offloads, bullet passes, crazy feet, big hits, running back across the grain, support runners, number 8 kick throughs, imagine how good we would be with a lineout?! 😂 Very enjoyable, respect to the coaching staff Castres were blown away! Very happy chappy this morning let's hope for good news with the scans and how good was Hamilton? He was burnt of a scrum but caught and tackles the man then makes a turnover in the other side of the pitch I think a phase later! I had to make sure he didn't have a twin lol

Best first 50 mins I can remember for a long, long time. Brilliant.

As regards giving up the TBP to Castres. We were calling this on the terrace with 20 mins to go and I have to wonder if the coaches were too. Scott11 is right, it keeps them interested for their next home game against Racing which we want them to win. It would be perfect for us if Castres and Racing win their home games as Castres will be out by round 5 when we visit them. One thing is for certain, Castres aren't getting out this pool.

Would have been a perfect day if Racing hadn't stolen the late LBP. However, can't complain. Our first TBP of the season in style!

Certainly is an enthusiastic crowd, clap away and why not!
I remain cautiously optimistic as I recall standing watching the Ospreys match and thinking the Ospreys hadn't turned up, well I stood and thought the same about Castres yesterday!
Someone said it was a game for the backs and it was, there will be less space to be had at U14 matches this morning!
I suspected Castres might not turn up, as did others, a great result and enjoyable to watch, but I just don't trust them any more than I would Mick Jagger with my missus!

Just been over the supermarket to pick up the Sunday odds and ends prior to the ritual libation in the "One Eyed Turk". A couple of folk looked at the shirt and gave it the thumbs up. Another old boy came across.........

I had to smile, I think my pint of Sundown is going to taste pretty good today.

Well, the result was very good, but it doesn't tell the full story.

Genge was outstanding and must be considered as first choice in the front row for England, Hamilton, May and Vieanau also impressed. Malouf is coming good, getting hold of him is like trying to drag a particularly leggy spidercrab from a basket.

The last 20 minutes took the shine off what had been a pretty accomplished performance up until that point. I know substitutions had their part to play (MoC needs to learn brinkmanship) but to drop the intensity and allow Castres to pick up a try bonus point is nigh on unforgivable. Social media groaned under the weight of mixed emotion. You could argue that the game was already won - and so it was - but, if you can't play rugby for 80 minutes, there are teams that will pick you off with aplomb.

I think it might be a good thing that Castres picked up an LPB. It'll keep them interested for their next match against Racing at home. If they picked up nothing, they might completely throw the towel in. They'll still lose but if they could hold Racing to 4, that would be useful.

The line-out still isn't functioning. It should not be beyond the whit of a professional set of players and coaches to sort it out.

The injury to Toomua could be potentially very damaging. I'm not sure what the prognosis is, but pray he's in one piece, otherwise its going to be a long season.

As an aside, my thoughts are with Lopez, whose horror injury you wouldn't wish on anyone.

Really enjoyed the game, incredible performance for 50 mins, shame to let them back in but credit to Castres they did not throw in the towel and made a game of it in the 2nd half. As others have said it may prove to be a good thing that they got the TBP.

Lots of room on the terrace which was great in many ways, but a very disappointing crowd for a European Cup game (circa 18000). Perhaps the 5.30 KO although that doesn't bother me on a Saturday, more likely the last day of Leicester's half term.

Anyway if we keep playing like that the crowds will soon return!!

Massively concerned about Toomua, also Genge and Owen, but particularly Toomua, we simply don't have a replacement for him.

For once?

I get it right quite a lot actually, but I'm not infallible. It isn't my fault that the mentality ingrained within some is to impugn everything I say on principle.

In this particular case, I was suggesting that Castres had the potential to beat Tigers, but that whether they actually would or not was a different matter (I'm struggling to see what was wrong with that assumption). I urged caution in expectation.

Happily, I was wrong on this occasion.
