Leicester Tigers head coach Matt O'Connor is interested in signing versatile Argentina back Santiago Cordero as injury dispensation cover.

O'Connor told BBC Radio Leicester that the deal was "nowhere near a certainty".

He added: "He's a guy who's available. We've had a conversation with him around that."

And in the Mercury...

“He’s a guy who is available and we have had a conversation with him around that. But it is around dispensation and budget and all the other dynamics that go with the game these days."

He was at Welford Road on the weekend, and given a tour with his family. Surely that means it's done? Or very close at least...

I think the plan is probably ditch Brady, Catchpole and possibly one or both of Tait and Smith to make room for him next season

I suspect you could probably add homles and worth to that list. I’m sure a 22 next season worth is going to be wanting a chance at regular 1st team rugby.

I doubt they will get rid of Holmes as we do need some depth, as for Worth I can see him taking Tait's utility role within the squad

I'm sure it is but is this a fixed term contract of a couple of years or is it injury dispensation for a short period? I'd assumed the former but the words I've highlighted slightly concerned me.

(It's probably just me! When I read "Tigers keen to sign Argentinian back", I thought it meant we were keen to have Matera back ie return. It's an age thing!)

Mermoz had already signed for Newcastle for this season before we got him as injury cover last season

By all accounts, Cordero is back in Argentina and training, again, with the Jaguars as things are not straight forward. Might be smoke and mirrors but I think the Tigers are forcing their responses to the media due to the amount of leaks. Similar to what happens in the American government if you will

Well, to me the reports indicate that we are looking at two different scenarios. Tigers are looking for a possible injury replacement; Munster are looking for a permanent replacement for Zebo for next season. This could be another Mermoz situation, or maybe he'll decide to wait until next season. Who knows? There could be many potential reasons for his eventual decision, and as MOC has said, it is far from certain. As such, I don't see it as anything like a sad statement of fact if he doesn't sign.

When McKenzie was 1st rumoured, he was no where near All Blacks squad so there was a chance but then Hansen gave him a chance and now he’s a regular so not even money could sway him to come here now unfortunately
