Dan Touhy is a useful loan

Is it speculation that Tait and Croft are on their way, or has an official announcement been made?

Not seen anything official but wouldn't surprise me if Crofty retired. Maybe one injury too many.
Tait, for me, has been excellent each time he's come on this season and I think his flexibility (in that he can cover pretty much both wing, centre and full back positions) makes him a decent guy to have on the bench, so I'd be surprised if he moved on mid season.

His pace is gone and his tackling ability isn't the strongest. His rugby brain has been an asset though. Given the change in the breakdown interpretation you've got to be more savvy when competing and Tait is good at spotting when it's on, he's also a good leader in the backs. Don't think he'll get a new deal at the end of the season.longlivethecrumbie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:27 am Not seen anything official but wouldn't surprise me if Crofty retired. Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 2!!
If Tait were to go that would leave us, in my opinion, very thin for centre cover. We would have Matt Smith (solid, reliable and a true Tiger who wouldn't let us down), Catchpole (can do a job but not spectacular), Owen (hard to judge as we haven't seen him at 1st team level), possibly Malouf (he certainly has the pace, power and tackling ability for outside centre but is untried in this position as far as I know). After that we are stretching things. Adam Thompstone might be able to fill in at OC and possibly the new man Pakalani though I don't know enough about whether he can play there. After that it's development or academy players. So we need to hold on to Tait as far as I am concerned. Anyone have any further thoughts on this?longlivethecrumbie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:27 am Not seen anything official but wouldn't surprise me if Crofty retired. Maybe one injury too many.

I forgot Charlie Thacker as a centre option.voice of the crumbie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:52 amIf Tait were to go that would leave us, in my opinion, very thin for centre cover. Not sure what the signing of Polota-Nau means regarding TY, Thacker, Kerr and McGuigan. To keep 4 hookers happy would be difficult but 5?????
If it is true about Croft and Tait then we really do need at least one more centre/full back cover so Earle would make total sense.
Good to read that BY and Coley are likely to sign new contracts next week - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyu ... racts.html

mail on sunday reporting , Ben Youngs and Dan Coles contracts end at the end of this season, but new contracts will be agreed this month
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 2!!
In the front row Tigers have to start looking for the future. Mulipola, Cilliers, Traynor, Rizzo and Cole are all over 30 now and are a couple of seasons away from retiring. Betts, Heyes and Hills all good players in development squad I hope Tigers keep them but they also need to look elsewhere.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 2!!
Props barring injury tend to play on to mid thirties like Rizzo, they are not in the team for their speed. In these days of short term contracts Tigers like all teams need to be constantly on the lookout for young players they can develop thus saving money by not requiring big money stars to immediately fill a void. This applies to all positions, we are in a strange world where 24 or 25 is a young player, 28/29 is a experienced and 30 is over the hill according to some.

I'd be more concerned over how much time Rizzo, Cilliers and Mulipola have actually been available to us over the last season or so.
Quality players, yes undoubtably, but that's only if use if they're fit and available regularly.

Added Franco Mostert to the rumours in.
The TRP mentions Franco Mostert being interested in the prem and that Bristol, Tigers, Quins, Exeter and some others are interested.
Agent talk basically.

What a player he is though RB?! I'd have him tomorrow,at least as good as Kitchener in the lineout and offers way more around the park. Time to build on the pack now.
