Slater knew our line out calls- said O'Connor!

Just reading Matt O'Connor's comments about the lineouts in The Leicester Mercury:' You have a guy playing for Gloucester( Ed Slater) who knows all our line out calls as well, which isn't particularly helpful.'
I cannot believe Tigers had all Summer to put new calls in place- surely that is what the pre- season training was for!! Strange!
Quins will have a field day on Saturday if our lineout misfires.

I doubt it is the calls themselves that matter (I doubt he overheard the messages passed on by Ellis to the hooker of the moment). He will have known what our strengths are, what we would likely choose to do in any given situation, what we are coached to do. Changing the codes would have made little difference in those circumstances.

I hope he meant that tongue in cheek. Otherwise it sounds like he's searching for excuses, and has only managed to come up with one that makes the coaching team look poorly prepared.

Did Slater send details of our calls to Bath and Saints too? Does Slater knowing our calls prevent the hooker from throwing accurately? Does Slater knowing our calls prevent the jumper from handling the ball effectively? Does Slater knowing our calls prevent the hooker and those in the line from acting in a coherent and organised manner?

He also lays part of the blame on the 2 young locks, which is probably a bit disheartening for them. O'Connor should just accept that the lineout hasn't worked well and do what's necessary to fix it.

Surely a professional club would have the time and resources to at least mix them up a bit for the 2 fixtures against Glouc if they felt this was going to be a problem? Planning for and adapting to the opposition each week is a fairly important aspect of modern professional sport.

It was in my playing days. You always had alternatives practiced for every occasion. If that was the case then, IMO, Blaze was responsible for not sorting it out? Jeff Paring spend an inordinate amount of time looking a line-out plays of other sides. He spent his recuperation from injury doing it. Why wouldn't others and therefore why wouldn't sides mix them up.

That's all well and good TigerCam but players sometimes can't even remember their daily routines let alone a complete set of alternative line out calls!
