Re: Tigers Vs Gloucester
Better. Not great but...better. Scrum struggled when Genge and Cole went off; back line missed Toomua who's becoming a real presence. Excellent from Williams in a strong looking back row; Smith, as ever, earned his keep with a solid game. Malouf starting to find his way.
Best performance? The Langham Lip - A. Healey Esq., with his analysis of how the team have to learn how to play off George Ford.

Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Re: Tigers Vs Gloucester
Despite the score which was much needed, the structure of the Tigers was pretty woeful. Against a stronger side they would have not scored at all. Too lateral at times no pace onto the ball. Plenty of individual bright spots but nothing yet to convince me that the Tigers will compete for a play-off spot, nor get out of their ECC pool. Again, no 'generals' on the pitch, no one questioning the ref, no-one having the vision to run at pace into the space that Ford opens up.

What a loose, unstructured, awful game of rugger that was. Squint put ins, knocks on, line out a shambles, off sides missed. Are we just playing to the crowd and have the laws of the game, as adjudicated by someone who looks like an errant sixth former just gone missing? Structure and discipline. That's what we need. None of this headless chicken itis. Harrumph. Remy time. First one of the season.

Bit harsh by some. Certainly not great but better. Lineout isn't just about the the throwers but the lifters and some over ambitious calls.
Scrum went wrong when Bateman came on and Khalamafoni had to move into the row. Back row looked better Mapalanga is going to be a belter.
Backs went poor when Tomua went off hopefully not too serious and will be back next week.
As for Mr Maxwell-Keyes I think I'll start a new thread

I thought for a relegation battle it was an excellent game!
If you don't go in hard it's not a tackle it's an insult.

Re: Tigers Vs Gloucester
Scoreline flattered us as Gloucester were beyond abysmal. Better structure than previous games but that isn't really saying a lot.
Lineout was exceptionally poor again - going to the corner when you have the other team rocking and a decent lead is sound idea, provided you can actually win your own lineouts. Definitely not just a throwing issue either, some superbly thrown balls wasted by being comprehensively outplayed throughout.
Good players don't miraculously become terrible over the summer, it has to be a coaching problem.

Also, to actually add something positive - quite a few players looked pretty sharp today. Toomua, Williams, Genge and the Ford/Youngs axis earned their coin for the most part.cheltexile wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 7:05 pm Scoreline flattered us as Gloucester were beyond abysmal. Mapapalangi is defo one to watch and I think should start ahead of Kalamafoni next week at the Stoop

Individually, players impressed, defence was very good only to concede 10 points when Gloucester made 12 clean breaks, keep that up for better sides and we shouldn't do terribly

Re: Tigers Vs Gloucester
Huge credit must go to the coach Matt O'Connor IMO, he made some bold selections.
Yes you can analyse things and pick out this and that but overall there can be a lot of positives taken, two new locks into the mix and back row options, the pack looked more physical overall as a unit first half.
Second half dropped off as the physicality of the unit was reduced and Gloucester got a foothold in the game and then it got very loose but they are things that can be overcome with the likes of McGuigan etc to return IMO.
That scrum changed after the hooker was changed.
Not sure I would've been turning down all those points first half going for the try, I can understand why but don't necessarily agree, bit more patience required, build more scorboard pressure IMO, get it to 30-0 and so on and the rest will come!
The win was most important and they delivered.
