As the season kicks off today it seems the best time to see how we think the Premiership table will look after 22 games.

Here's my prediction:

with 12 teams one of which will be at the top and 1 at the bottom and 10 others between them

1. Exeter - Strong after last seasons win
2. Tigers - Fit back line plus improvements in pack
3. Saracens - Slightly struggle without Ashton and internationals
4. Harlequins - Saili big signing, and Ibotoye and Smith could be big funds this season
5. Wasps - Struggle without Beale and internationals plus poor defence
6. Bath - Struggle with average front row and without internationals
7. Newcastle - Improve slightly with return of Flood but I think will still be inconsistent away
8. Northampton - Outdated coaching and no replacement for Picomoles
9. Gloucester - New quality head coach but squad still not good enough imo
10. Worcester - Experienced captain plus decent back line but no strength in depth
11. Sale - Poor coaching and no strength in depth
12. London Irish - I don't want this to happen, but despite decent back 3 Irish will still struggle

As JFJ said it's a lottery lower down but Sarries recruitment has again been fantastic. They will barring terrible injury issues, win the league and the final.

I genuinely think we can beat anyone on our day with a full strength team, but our second team is well behind the men from Allianz.

On the showings this Friday and Saturday it could be a fight between Quins, Saints and Worcester for the bottom.

On todays performance maybe 7th or 8th, we won't get another ref to be as kind to us as the ref today, he totally bottled loads of decisions today and was very much influenced by the crowd, he was a very poor ref and more experienced refs won't be cowed by welford road. If the three tackles were three yellow cards today it's sad to say rugby has gone soft, Ford milked the tackle to get a player sent off, totally unacceptable.

Alternatively last season every single high tackle would have been a yellow, so that would have been 5 plus Banahan at the end for cynically killing the ball.

According to the Premiership Rugby stats site after the first week:

• Tiger's lead the teams for meters gained (612)

• Tiger's lead on defenders beaten (34)

• whilst Bath lead for penalties conceded (13)

Outside of our game:

• Sale (who lost) are second for meters gained (595)

• Saints and Chiefs (both losing teams) lead the league in terms of carries (177 and 170 respectively) and are joint second for defenders beaten on 30

• Interestingly Saracens and London Irish (both wining teams) both conceded 12 penalties.

What I conclude from this is that carrying the ball, gaining meters and beating defenders loses games, whilst conceding penalties wins you games!

London Irish wont be relegated, they'll be a solid mid-table side I would think.

The top two will be between Wasps and Saracens.

Tigers could finish as low as 6th - Bath and Chiefs will certainly make them work to get into the top 4. Newcastle could be the dark horses and push Tigers for 5th.

If Tigers can get their sh*t in the sock, they've got a reasonable chance of 2nd - but based on Sunday's performance, I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
