Gloucester vs Exeter

Post by Jacko27 »

Three ex Tigers on display at Kingsholm tomorrow evening: Balmain, Slater & 36 (bench) but no sign yet of Owen Williams, Thomas Tank or Salvi. Could have been a bit of an exTigers reunion!

Gloucester are insane, if they played smart they would have kept their lead and now they might loose this, its says something when you've got a Tigers fan sitting here feeling sorry for Glaws fans

Balmain did very well starting against that big Exeter pack and how much strength in depth has Slater added to Gloucester! :smt022

Have to say I enjoyed the game but very disappointed with the way the turf cut up at Kingsholm. Some of the scrums reminded me of the bad old days of Millennium stadium in it's early days - not as bad but still not good.

Cracking game and start to the new prem. Some great individual displays I really liked the Chiefs 8.

Certainly Slater will help them, but what I fail to understand is why they have never increased their front five firepower over the last few years. Afoa and Hibberd just arent up to scratch scrummaging wise and Balmain has walked into a witches den joining their front row. A great win nonetheless.

They've picked up Rapava-Ruskin (currently injured) and Slater to enhance their tight five this summer with Balmain to give some depth. Afoa was a destructive scrummager everywhere before Glaws and isn't old enough to be passed it so might come good again with a strong loosehead. Hibbard isn't as good as he was but he's still solid, a better back up hooker might have been a good investment. The Glaws tight five looks considerably better than it did a couple of years back.

Didn't think our old boys in the backs were up to much, both Purdy and Symons showed that they had the physical attributes but made handling errors and poor decisions cut short Gloucester attacks. Slater and Balmain on the other hand are on their way to winning over their new supporters.

Balmain did well throughout , but particularly Slater , and also 36 did well from the bench . On the whole I thought Exeter were the better Team but did not get the benefit of any close decisions .

Could be a citing for Motu'u though. His head butt, no arms tackle on Steenson was awful, but went unpunished !? Steenson left got an HIA and the Glos hooker stated on...bizarre !

Balmain was outstanding.
