Ed Slaters twitter handle no longer says "Leicester Tigers player". It now says "Professional rugby player".

The announcement may only be days away! :smt041

The fact we are signing another England international player is exciting.

Youngs
Ford
Toomua
Tuilagi
May
Thompstone
Veainu

If that does not excite you, then I have no idea what will!!

What's been held up on his honeymoon?

Oh...I see...!
It is probably May that needs an intensive medical if he's been honeymooning! :smt054

The whole point of the thread is that we are debating the loss of Slater as much as the recruitment of May. I'll infer that you're happy to see Slater go, then.
Ps I'm happy to see May join but sad to lose Slater.

I'd be sad to see Slater go even if he was desperate to leave.

I not happy that Slater is going but I'm not unhappy either. We have got the best part of the deal by replacing Slater with May.

Slater has been a very good player for us but we have better options than him now available. Thanks for the service Slater and welcome to Tigers Jonny May!

Agree completely. Quite aside from any sentimental attachment to Slater and his past performances, if he stays fit then his best could still be ahead of him - in which case, he'd be in my Tigers 23 every time.

Well, at least it's official now! Sorry to see Ed Slater going, he's been a good servant to the club. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing our new England International Wing in action at Welford Road! I think May is a great signing and will link up nicely with fellow England Internationals Youngs and Ford. It's certainly shaping up to be an interesting season at Tigers this year...

Bitter- sweet transfer.
I agree Ed Slater will be a sad loss and I for one wish him well. A great servant of Tigers with last season a battle for him.

J. May will be a great fit and if played to his strengths "a la days" of Vardell we will profit.

I for one will be looking forward to 2017/18 season and expect great things. M.O.C. should now have the team he needs - so no excuses.

Can they both play in the game between the sides at Welford Rd on September 16th??

Hope so, End Slater deserves a proper send off & would be a great occasion for Jonny May too

I am told that it isn't a straight swap and the we paid £150k to enable May to break his contract. If true I hope he proves to be value for money. :smt023

This is a good move by Tigers, given that Jonny May wanted to leave Glous. and that Tigers were apparently his desired club then it's a win - win. Slater has been a great servant to Tigers and I wish him well at Tigers Seconds@Kingsholm! He could be their potential Captain in the new regime.

I think players like May are very valuable. Not just in attack but in defence opposition teams will be mindful of May's pace and his ability to hit on the counter off turnover and loose kicks.

Too often in the past we have chipped away at teams like Wasps 3 points at a time. Now you feel we have a backline that can scare the life out of teams (especially if we get to finals and play on wider pitches).
