Lions Squad Predictions

Post by kpj tiger »

Being as nobody has done it yet i'll start it, who do we think is going to make the roughly 37 man squad to NZ? I'd take:

Looseheads - Mako Vunipola, Jack Mcgrath, Cian Healy (reserve Joe Marler)
Hookers - Rory Best, Jamie George, Ken Owens (reserve Tommy Taylor)
Tightheads - Tadgh Furlong, Dan Cole, Kyle Sinkler (reserve WP Nel)

Locks - Maro Itoje, Joe Launchberry, AW Jones, Jonny Gray, Ian Henderson (reserve George Kruis)

Blindside Flankers - Peter O'Mahoney, James Haskell, Sean O'Brian (reserve Chris Robshaw)
Openside Flankers - Sam Warburton, Justin Tipuric (reserve Hamish Watson)
Number 8's - Billy Vunipola, CJ Stander (reserve Toby Falateau)

Scrum Halves - Connor Murray, Ben Youngs, Rhys Webb (reserve Greg Laidlaw)
Fly Halves - Jonny Sexton, Owen Farrell, Finn Russell (reserve Dan Biggar)

Centers - Robbie Henshaw, Jonathan Joseph, Garry Ringrose, Elliot Daly (reserve Jonathan Davies)

Wings - Jack Nowell, George North, Anthony Watson, Liam Williams (reserve Tim Visser)
Fullbacks - Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebbo (reserve Rob Kearney)

Starting team of
1. M.Vunipola
2. Best
3. Furlong
4. AW Jones
5. Itoje
6. O'Mahoney
7. Warburton
8. B.Vunipola
9. Murray
10. Sexton
11. North
12. Farrell
13. Henshaw
14. Nowell
15. Hogg

16. George
17. Healey
18. Sinkler
19. Henderson
20. O'Brian

I'm sure Gatland will take more but how much they warrant that selection is debatable

Far too few Welshmen in there to be a Gatland squad, don't forget they did win 2 or3 games during the 6 nations, North had one decent game during the 6 nations and he is being talked about as the second coming.

England won the 6 Nations for the second time however the pundits are still picking squads with relatively few Englishmen in it.

No not Healey, I picked Healy and yes, Jared Payne at 12.

Care to explain your questioning?

This has to be one of the most embarrassing Lions first XV selections ever..I almost felt so sorry for you that I didn't post this response..

You are right you do have great rugby knowledge :smt044 :smt043 I know it is just an opinion but come on further to Scotts post Ben Youngs along with George Ford starting at fly half?? Who is the international class kicker on the pitch...?

The international class fly half would do the kicking.

Why do you think it's the worst team in history?

I do not believe regardless of who is picking the team, any Lions coach would start Ford as the first line kicker in a Lion's test regardless of the opposition

Well you could bring Halfpenny in for Hogg then but Hogg deserves to start.

Thank goodness.

That way we wont have some of England's best players return injured or worn out after a brutal three nil whupping by the All Blacks in an outdated rugby tradition that should have been thrown on the scrapheap when the amateur era ended.

As far as I'm concerned, Gatland could pick 36 random monkeys and get Warburton to captain the lot.

Halfpenny wasn't in the team you picked, hence why it was raised you had now front line kicker in the team

Thanks Mr Obvious! I know he wasn't in the team I chose. I believe Hogg should start ahead of him. Notice I said you COULD bring Halfpenny in for Hogg. I didn't say I would.
