Is there a better way?

Post by wyresm »

I feel the next DOR needs to be someone with no previous connection to the club. There are to many ex players in positions they shouldn't be.

Get the best man for the job, who can manage the players we have, attract the players we want. Bring the success and fear back to the Leicester tigers, it has been lost. Well and truly beaten but the new breed of top 4 teams.

Energy
Good handling
Power
Skill

Too many ex tigers coming back to hurt us.

Rob Baxter is THE answer.

Look at the Exeter performance tonight (alongside previous seasons) and you see that they are physical, do the basics well and work hard. There is nothing flash in how they play and don't just throw the ball around. They are the perfect example of a very well coached side.

It would be fantastic but it's never going to happen.

The Chiefs are in Baxter's blood in the same way red, white and green runs through Cockers veins. 14 years as a player, 10 as captain and into his 8th season as coach. He led them to promotion in his first season at the helm and since has overseen Chiefs becoming a leading side in the AP.

Baxter has built that Chiefs squad to complement his skills as a coach and he has a collection of very talented players to keep building with. The squad is still being improved too with Kvesic coming in for next season - I think that he could thrive under Baxter.

No doubt that Baxter would improve pretty much every pack and therefore team in the league but he won't be coming to Welford Road.

That's more likely to happen if he's reached the end of the road he can take his squad down.

They are sat in a home semi-final position with home games against Sale and Bristol next up in the Prem. Plus they have plenty of improvements to make in Europe.

I think Baxter has more achievements with Exeter to add to his CV before he moves elsewhere.

The only reason Baxter will leave Exeter is for the England job, and at the moment he is probably favourite to replace Jones after the next World Cup.

I expect the Exeter owner would be approached by Baxter's representatives and just give him a pay rise. He could probably name his price.

Hence the current fallacy of some calling Exeter a "great" side.

Getting beyond the comments about Exeter's head coach, and back to reality, I am wondering whether the OP has put his finger on part of the problem. But of course it doesn't matter what we think.
Be interesting to know how the club is perceived by the younger players trying to break through: 'has-beens set in their ways', 'up-and-coming open to new ideas' or something else entirely?
