Totally agree, he was excellent and apparently he's currently 3rd choice!!

Aus really rated him.

Aaron Morris I think.
I remember him tearing it up for the England under 20s. Looks like the obvious long term option for Quins, would happily bring him to Tigers if we could as a specialist 15 as Worth is a good utility option (having played centre for England under 20s and flyhalf for Notts).

Tait is most likely off to France so we'll need a new full back. He seems to be available and he's definitely good. So God yes.

He'll be 32 at the start of next season (same age as Tait) and quite likely to be done with his international career so available for his new Club for a couple of years. With Veainu and Worth as well, we'd be pretty well set at 15.

It would box off our back three very nicely for next season too.

Is it just me or in recent times when Crowson has written a Merc article stating 'the club are interested' a signing has been announced soon after? Crowson isn't as loud mouthed as some journalists (thankfully) but he is usually spot on when he does speak up.

11.JPP, Brady, Catchpole
14.Thompstone, Betham, Holmes
15.Brown, Veainu, Worth

Three strong options in each position. TV and Holmes able to cover wing and full back. Catchpole and Betham able to cover wing and 13.

Back-up fly-half and a strong centre to replace Mermoz/Roberts will still be needed though.

I have a concern with the signing of a well known player like Mike Brown, not on a personal basis but that yet again he would be taking a position from a home grown young talent. We don't see enough players coming through from our academy. Worth has stepped into the breach on a number of occasions this season when we have been stretched. He has done quite well and shown a lot of potential. It would be sending totally the wrong message to him and other young players coming through the system if next season he is our third choice full back and not second choice. Why do we bother with an academy if we don't give the assets it produces an opportunity when they clearly deserve it.

To properly sort the season on season injury crisis we need to develop an ability to rotate. The depth to do that will give the coaches breathing space to bring our academy grads through.

Our young players keep getting thrown in the deep-end during injury crisis when they are surrounded by a hodge-podge side. If we want to give them a chance they should be worked in around our top players where they can settle.

9.Youngs
10.Ford
11.JPP
12.Toomua
13.Manu
14.Thompstone
15.Worth

I'd much rather have the strength in depth to rotate Worth into a backline such as that rather than a last back standing please come forward situation!

Nah IMO.

Better to use the cap elsewhere.

Sign Holmes and move worth up to cover 15.

Being linked by the MO to Lyon Fijian beast Napolioni Nalaga who would be better use of the money than Brown IMO and covers 13 (or specifically Manu).

Find a 10/12 somewhere (hopefully)
Sign a player like Nalaga to cover 13/14
Sign Holmes and Worth to cover 15 and wing. Worth also covers 10/12/13.

Back sorted.

Forwards are another matter.

How long do you give an Academy player to establish himself once in the first team squad? If they take more than a season, they should be moved out to allow others the opportunity.

However, they are not going to immediately going to make a difference, unlike a Mike Brown. The experience a player like Worth could gain alongside Brown would be significant, and would position him as an eventual replacement.

It is not a question of an Academy player or an experienced player. A blend is necessary.

You need to blend experience and youth together, you cannot just simply put the academy players into the side and expect them to be international class. By bringing in someone of Mike Browns stature would be of benefit in two kinds, one is obviously his skill level would improve our side and 2, his presence on the training ground would help the academy players around him.
So all in all, I think if he comes to WR, I for one would see that as a positive step for the Tigers

Seems to be a misconception of a trade off being made between signing high quality and giving youth a chance but IMO only a fool would not be interested in signing Mike Brown if they didn't have a high quality full back already, he also has something that Leicester are often missing IMO and as a bonus he is English.
WADR Worth is good, he is actually a very solid player already but he simply doesn't have that level of pace for a top European team IMO!
If you could combine Worth and Veainu into one then you'd have the perfect full back!
As Exeter showed for all his skill Veainu can be found out at that next level from full back, I can understand why he might be viewed as a better wing option, as I've said before Wade-esque.
I'm all for young players getting a chance but only if they are good enough and they need to be good enough much quicker than currently being shown, when they are it's pretty clear as it is with Genge and Evans and as it was with Cole and Croft etc.

If we are genuinely after a full back then why not go for Rob Miller at Wasps?

They have Le Roux and Beale so Miller never gets a look in.

Top class full back that would come much cheaper than Brown and be available all season.

I'm kind of with RB, but he could add something despite his limitations that were discussed on another thread. So, ignoring the fact he is limited in his positions, doesn't kick goals and is well the wrong side of 30, he could bring in much needed spirit, leadership, aggression and experience. If Tait is off, and now Mermoz is definitely a Falcon next year, maybe there is space for an elder statesman in the back line. Being able to develop Worth as a fullback, complementing what Geordan does now, could be a long term bonus too.
