Times report Ford on his way to Tigers

Post by rdracup »

Strong story in the Times this morning saying GF on his way and Freddie going in opposite direction to Bath. GF to be paid 450k, and turned down Sale who offered more.

Story written with a lot of confidence though careful to say it is not official. Also says his Dad is not joining him!

Northamptonshire Police have been asked to correct an earlier inaccurate report claiming that two Fords were seen speeding in tandem northbound on the M1.
A spokesman for Warwickshire Constabulary Sergeant Dick 'Dock' Green said:
"They've got it completely wrong. There's only one Ford and he's been seen on the M42 going quite slowly, which should see him arrive sometime in late summer".

If true it means we would have lost 2 flys halfs and signed one. So who will be our new No2 fly half :smt017

So that means we still need another fly half?

Toby Flood - reversal of their original roles?

Toby Flood maybe or another new signing. We will have someone else.

Or ironically Flood turns out be be the better option at 10 and Ford ends up on the bench again :smt003
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

Articles from today, not confirmation of course but a bit more fuel.

Turned down a bigger offer from Sale & Burns to Bath as part of deal - ink not dry on either part - according to article.
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

One thing I will say about this if it's true, is that Ben Youngs International form is good and his half back partner for the most part has been GF, and they were striking up quite a good partnership at Tigers when GF left to join his dad at Bath so there could be some positive thinking behind this. Plus the Times correspondent who wrote the story is a canny guy with good connections.

If we get Ford great, but I don't want to loose Freddie. He has come a long way even behind a poor pack. Behind a poor pack Ford will not be able to do any better.

This is deal making, not the direction I'd like as a mere punter. It makes eminent sense to keep both if you want to be a top-class side. or are we going to have some second-rater as our most-of-the-season 10?
The loss of Fred has gutted Mrs G - she thinks he is a proper Tiger and a great player. Still, Thommo is still there with the pong of wintergreen as he jogs past, plus her faves Crofty, Smithy and Ed.....so far.

Nope, sorry. Not excited by this at all. Freddie has proven to have more "Tiger" in him than Ford ever will.

Ford at the expense of Freddie also stinks of the petulant attitude that made him leave in the first place (I'm George Ford, you must guarantee me a starting place!).

Firstly no one is saying FB's departure is part of a deal and if he does leave it seems it would be Freddie who doesn't want to stay and fight for the shirt. If GF comes it is a sign we can still attract high class players and is nothing but very good news. If FB doesn't want to stay that's up to him.

Not really averse to GF joining BUT I fear for the amount of missed kicks we are going to ship.
So are Tigers going to get a kicking coach in for him? Or will MT take the duties?
When you play the small percentage game that missed 2 pointer may just mean a big L.

True but behind a decent pack, Ford will be better.
