Calum Clark - Again!
Just watched the highlights of the Saints game. Clark yellow carded for foul play at the end of the game but completely got away with an elbow to the face of Donncha O'Callaghan earlier in the game which, if D O'C hadn't seen it coming and started to move reducing the impact, could easily have been extremely serious. Hopefully a citing will follow, but why did the ref completely ignore the accusation from the victim - he should surely have at least said it will be looked at later, even if it wasn't spotted at the time?
As for the TMO - Coffee break perhaps?

Saw it live - on replay, Clark was actually looking and targeting. Mentioned it in the Friday games thread.Tyzot wrote:Just watched the highlights of the Saints game. Re: Calum Clark - Again!
ITV highlights made a point of showing the elbow incident and his rough behaviour at the end (twice). Just got the feeling that someone wanted to make sure it gained further exposure.
They also said any team in the AP would welcome as good a player as Clark - well I hope Tigers wouldn't hire him if he was the last available backrower in the world.

If Tigers were ever to hire this thug I for one would be tempted to return my season ticket and find another team to support.jgriffin wrote:They also said any team in the AP would welcome as good a player as Clark - well I hope Tigers wouldn't hire him if he was the last available backrower in the world.
Tigers for the premiership and European Cup. Get behind the team and make some noise!!

Re: Calum Clark - Again!
Quite evidently a deliberate attempt to incapacitate another player. Imho he should be cited, banned - and, frankly, ostracized by all professional players who must worry about their own safety when sharing a pitch with this mindless thug who, like all cowards, looks for a defenceless opponent.
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

It's just been announced that he has been cited:

No doubt he will get a short ban suspended until the off season post which he will return and be named in the England squad.Christophelp wrote:It's just been announced that he has been cited:

Low Entry is 2 weeks
Mid Range is 5 weeks
Top End is 9 weeks
It isn't top end.
Arguable somewhere between low and mid range. Any discount will take on board what his plea is. I'm predicting three weeks.

The EnglishClub website says:
"Football is a gentleman's game played by ruffians, and rugby is a ruffian's game played by gentlemen.
This old British saying cleverly contrasts football (or soccer) with rugby. "Ruffian" is an old-fashioned word meaning a tough, violent, possibly criminal person. The saying shows the irony of the fact that a rough and dangerous game like rugby was played by polite, well-educated "gentlemen", while the much gentler and safer game of football was played by tough, lower-class men with a reputation for violence. Even today rugby players might seem to be very polite gentlemen when compared to many footballers, especially those seen swearing at referees and angrily abusing them when a decision goes against them. Some people might even say that this old British saying still applies today."
Occasionally, of course, football gets a Bobby Charlton - whilst we get a Calum Clarke.

Probably about right on your prediction. Sadly the charge doesn't really fit the intent. It is obvious in the video footage he is essentially trying to fly into O'Callaghan whilst leading with the elbow; one suspects the "law" was written to cater for a swinging elbow in the Hartley style which, although still an act o violence, probably doesn't have the same potential for damage that Clark has delivered again.Iain wrote:Low Entry is 2 weeks

Any hope of a perceived change in character after the incident that wrecked Rob Hawkins' career is sadly miss-placed; the guy is nothing more than a thug who gets away with his violence on the basis of it being his career.

One of the reasons I don't play rugby any more. I can't afford the be on the receiving end of an idiot on the opposition.Southerntiger wrote:You see worse in most club games on a saturday
So, O'Callaghan doesn't get out of the way, and gets an elbow in the face/temple area followed by 100+kilos of Clark - that could be a major head injury. If it isn't punished it gives completely the wrong message.Get a life you lot, much bigger things to worry about.
Bigger things to worry about? Get a grip. It's stupid things like this, cheap shot high tackles and the like, which will lead to more thoughts on how to "limit" the damage, which will only end up taming the game.
That said, I suspect you probably think what he did to Rob Hawkins was just "part of the game".
Re: Calum Clark - Again!
Not where I live.
This is Rugby forum so by definition the presence of a thug in our sport is a big thing.
If you have a relevant opinion to share, feel free to express it.
If you don't wish to take part in the debate then that is also an option available to you. But "Get a Life" Really!

Re: Calum Clark - Again!
Three clips that sum him up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNgWg8k ... e=youtu.be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkmMK76 ... e=youtu.be
http://sport.bt.com/video/ocallaghan-in ... 4114335486
Bottom line: Either he badly hurts someone and gets a lifetime ban (unlikely) or he goes through a metamorphosis and becomes a good guy (ya think?) or (and this is what should happen) a few of his team-mates take him to one side and 'encourage him' to change his behaviour. Come on Mallinder / Hartley / Foden / Wood - sort him out before it's too late!

A number of posters on Saints Unoffy also agree he brings shame on their club.......
