South Africa head coach Allister Coetzee has confirmed that second-row Eben Etzebeth is set to sign a short-term deal in the Premiership.

“I can assure you it is definitely going to happen. I’m not sure which club he will join though,” said the Springbok head coach.

Hmmm...that's a confirmation? :smt017

I hope this is true. I've got alot of time for Fearns but our chance was when he left Bath. 18 months later after a lucrative spell in France I'm not sure he would tick our box especially for three years. It's a shame but we need an 8 that will peak next season and sustain form for a further 1/2 years. We need a starter.

Fearns was excellent at the weekend against Toulon. If he brought that form here next season he'd be a starter for us and be of interest to Eddie Jones as well (he plays exactly like an Eddie backrower).

Well Morgan, Hook, Kvesic and someone else, are all confirmed leaving Glous. Where's Morgan Heading? sure we tick his boxes as he still has England hopes and we're looking for an 8.

You know that Fearns is still only 27, a monstrous carrier and that he plays all three back-row positions?

He's the sort of player who could easily be a Tigers starter for at least three years and would be almost guaranteed a spot in a first choice 23.

My only issue with him is his injury record - he spends a lot of time broken due to his abrasive style of play.

EDIT: Plus he laid out Gav Henson with one punch in a pub fight, which is worth a contract on its own... :)

Yes, apparently he had a year left on his contract and Bath made an offer 'they couldn't refuse'. http://www.bathchronicle.co.uk/bath-rug ... story.html

When you consider him and their other new signings from NZ, Robbie Fruean, Jack Wilson, and Paul Grant, (plus Darren Allison (loan)from Irish), and compare that to Tigers situation of not being able to afford further cover for Toomua, then it's another illustration of where the Club now stands in the new order of clubs owned by the super-rich sugar daddies.
Until you consider that Jack Wilson was a very fringe squad player at Sarries and that Paul Grant is a Championship player, so hardly bank-breaking signings.

Tigers could make that sort of signing too, I'm sure. But why? Why not use the existing squad depth first?

Kvesic is leaving? I'd happily have him.

Another 7? BOC, Evans and both Thacker and McCaffery can play there too. What we need is a big ball carrier with a massive work rate.

Mhmm, good at the breakdown but I think our 7s offer a better all round package.

Confirmed. Carl Fearns goes to Glaws.

Was really hoping we had this one. Cracking signing for them.

Yes, I heard that somewhere too.

So is that a sign of our inability to compete financially for top talent or have they just overpaid?

Considering he's hardly a salary cap busting player (albeit very good), I'd suggest they've paid massively over the odds for him if the £65K figure is correct.
