Which is?
He was there for 17 years in various capacities during which they had some very successful seasons.

The background to Quins finance may suggest foreign money - Ellis and others involved have background entities such as Mosaic Ltd (Guernsey), which was named in the bond issue, but AFAIR has far Eastern connections.
So it is possible that a sea-change is on the way..............

That'll be really handy for 8 of their games next season...

Exeter have just announced that they have "promoted" 13 academy prospects into their senior group for next year. They are doing a brilliant job down there.

They really are setting the blueprint for others to follow.
They do have a geographical advantage as I imagine they will have first pick on any decent player from Devon and Cornwall but Baxter has that knack of knowing just when to move players onto the next level as shown with the Simmons brothers this season

There has always been huge rugby participation and support in Devon and Cornwall (just look at how many top English players have come from the region) and previous to Exeter's rise the best of these players would have been spread around other English clubs, particularly Bath and Gloucester. I suspect this is one reason why Bath were always so strong - for a long time they had the pick of the best youngsters from most of the South West - and it's one reason why Exeter will most likely stay around the top of the game.

Exeter are lucky to have such natural resources, but no one can argue that they aren't doing a damn good job of making the most of them.

Not questioning Exeters ability to produce players BUT just promoting 13 players from U18 doesn't really mean much IMO it will be the amount that progress to the actual senior squad that will be the main thing.

Chiefs rest on Baxter, his rep and connections as well as his nous. The biggest threat to Chiefs comes from the money behind them (not just Rowe, by far) getting ambitious about Europe and deciding to scout a bigger name coach.

I would be surprised if Baxter moved on unless it was for the England job, and I’m not personally convinced that would be right for him, as unsure how the Exeter ethos would transfer to the International stage.

Exeter would be absolutely bonkers to try to scout a bigger name coach. Baxter must be the biggest name in my opinion! :smt045

Charlie Matthews will be leaving Harlequins at the end of the season, certainly wouldn’t mind coming to us. I definitely rate him.
