I was surprised by this. Why can't we just play development players instead of the injured senior players?

I think some Nottingham fans may have found it disrespectful to them had we picked youngsters based on a previous discussions I've had.

No chance of putting out a load of youngsters, they could've potentially got hurt against a full Nottingham team.
Some of the kids won't make it at National League level let alone this level, that's just the way it is these days.
One or two can be slotted in here and there at the higher level but not too many, the pressure physically and mentally would be too great to a dangerous level.
