Wasps hire Beale

Post by jgriffin »

Kurtley Beale reported in national press as signing for Wasps on a 3 year deal worth £1.5m (no link as at work).
What an odd choice........the Melbourne drinking club hits the Midlands?
Leicester Tigers 1995-

Swansea (Whites) 1988-95

£750k a year takes a large lump out of the SC, or will he be their marquee player?

I assume Smith and Piutau are current marquee players.

Two-year deal is being reported - so mega cash.
He and Cipriani will make for an interesting partnership - on, and off, the field.

Have you seen him play for the Tahs this year? Been one of the form backs in Super Rugby.

The guy oozes talent and can play across the whole backline...temperament is very questionable but they obviously feel they can work with that..Robson/Simpson Cipriani/Gopperth, Beale, Daly, Halai, Wade and Miller is a very decent backline :smt023

Could be a world beating partnership with Cipriani, or could be total chaos.

Surprised the Aussies are letting him go. With Tomua coming to us that leaves them without both their first choice 12s

Wasps have signed very well for next year. However, with the likes of Piutau, Smith, Lozowski, Jackson and Festuccio leaving, and with Hughes ear-marked for the EPS, I think they might be in an overall negative position.
If Wade also makes the EPS, that means that, having lost Piutau and Smith, they could also be missing: Wade, Haskell, Mullan, Hughes, Daly, Launchbury, Cittadini, possibly Simpson and Cips (unlikely) during the international window. That would leave them very stretched and it's only a matter of time before Thomas Young makes it into the Wales squad.
Also, does anyone know if Beale has earned enough caps to still be eligible for the Wallabies?
I think they still need more cover.

With 60 caps I'm pretty sure he'll be fine to continue playing for the Wallabies.

Exactly Kurtley Beale doing the drinking and Danny Cipriani doing the driving :smt030
Note how the press are now calling them Coventry Wasps not London Wasps.

He'd better be good for £750k/yr. I think the rumoured £400k/year for Toomua and £350k to spend on other players is far better value!

Good move, we are in need of a world class fullback why weren't our scouts alerted to his availability?

we were but Cockers had a premonition that Beale would do his cruciate ligament and be out for 4-6 months. :smt004
