Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
Excellent news. I do hope we use the space available to us well. Lots of opportunities to improve the match day experience.

The Hotel should hopefully be able to generate plenty of cash.
Unfortunately the car park, training and pitch will be put on hold, but oh well.

This is superb news and one that I have been hoping for, for some time
I hope that the proposed hotel building and development will include specialised disability accommodation tailored for injured sportsmen & women. I'm sure That the Matt Hampson foundation will be very willing to discuss this idea with any interested parties.

It doesn't actually mention the pitch. We can only hope...RagingBull wrote:The Hotel should hopefully be able to generate plenty of cash.

The parking is a bit of a strange one as I thought that the whole point of it was because the Granby Halls car park was going. Parking will be a bit of an issue next season I'm sure.
The training ground... well at least we've still got Oval Park. Not like it's held us back so far.
Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
I once had this strange idea many years ago, before we built the new stands, if we got that site we could build a new stadium with the pitch rotated by 90 degrees giving us something that would have been acceptable for the world cup.
Pity this wasn't 10 years ago. However I look forward to something that enables an even better day out.

As long as the room rate is not 'stupid price' I may stay there on my trips to WR?RagingBull wrote:The Hotel should hopefully be able to generate plenty of cash.

Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
We needed to grab this opportunity, as the site would otherwise be out of the clubs hands for a very long time. Unfortunately that means putting other projects on hold, but it can't really be helped. I'm glad the council has made a decision in favour of one of the things that put Leicester on the map, especially as the city is very much in the public eye at the moment.

The article says four star so I wouldn't hold your breath.TigerCam wrote:As long as the room rate is not 'stupid price' I may stay there on my trips to WR?RagingBull wrote:The Hotel should hopefully be able to generate plenty of cash.

Could end up being used by visiting players.

Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
They should continue with the multi-story car park plans IMO, making spaces available as part of a priced season ticket package and available for use for the general public and City matches when Tigers are not playing.
That would contribute greatly to selling out the 26,000 capacity on matchdays and bring in income.
Parking isn't a problem if you know the area well and what times to arrive etc but it must be a nightmare for a newcomer!
A fanzone on the Granby Halls site would be well worth trying in the meantime before they plough ahead with a hotel.
Market style pitches with local sellers on matchdays, food stalls, trees and covered areas and benches and possibly a Leicester Tigers monument keeping the proud history of the club alive would be great IMO.

The thing is that the new car park at the infirmary is not getting as full as anticipated so the thoughts may be there is not the need they and we, have always thoughtThe Boy Dave wrote:They should continue with the multi-story car park plans IMO, making spaces available as part of a priced season ticket package and available for use for the general public and City matches when Tigers are not playing.

Yes I understand, can you get parking on that site though as part of a season ticket package or is it pay on the day, how well marketed is it for use?The thing is that the new car park at the infirmary is not getting as full as anticipated so the thoughts may be there is not the need they and we, have always thought
It's ease of access and the uncertainty that stops newcomers attending IMO, on site parking could change that.
I look at away trips very differently when I can book a car parking space, when it's not an option or if I don't know where I am going then I tend not to bother!

Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
This is potentially very good news.
The fans zone should enhance the matchday experience for fans, as well as bring in additional income for the Club.
I wonder what the Club intend to do with the finished Hotel development? Retain it for an alternative income stream; sell it to generate cash to fund other projects such as the training ground?
It's encouraging that Simon Cohen is reported to have been in negotiation with developers and hotel operators.
Now that the principle has been agreed, fingers crossed that the terms and the planning permission also get agreed and the project moves ahead quickly.

Re: Tigers win Granby Hall bid
To the extent that we can (no looking to a footie club with whom we can ground share/charge rent, thanks!), we should look at the Wasps model(spit!!). A business plan including a small casino as well as the hotel might do the trick . It is said that Simon Cohen is fairly astute.MurphysLaw wrote:This is potentially very good news.
