We seem to have a problem with talented Academy players, either we don't spot their potential early enough or leave it too late so by that time they are looking elsewhere for first class rugby. My solution would be for tigers to enter a team lower down the echelon perhaps Division 2 north if that were allowed and call them Leicester Cubs. There are not enough games played in the A league if that was developed and expanded then that could be another solution. Whichever way our Academy players need more time in playing good class sides that will test and hopefully develop them. I'm not sure about the history between Leicester Tigers and Lions but as they are in Division 2 North already, what about a take over?

But don't let facts get in the way of it. ;)

Wouldn't financially sound idea for us TBH.Noddy555 wrote:We seem to have a problem with talented Academy players, either we don't spot their potential early enough or leave it too late so by that time they are looking elsewhere for first class rugby. And you couldn't just enter a team straight into Division 2 north.
Can't see souths or Lions being happy with a full takeover by Tigers either.
We seem to send them either
Div 2
Souths
Lions
Nat 1
Ampthill
Loughbrough
coventry
Championship
Donnie
Nottingham (although not so much recently).

Interesting article by Alex Shaw in "Talking Rugby Union" looking at the 2019/20 Premiership XV of the Season.
At 12 he has Jacob Umaga of Leicester Tigers:
"The son of Samoan international Mike Umaga and the nephew of All Blacks legend Tana Umaga, Jacob is a versatile fly-half/inside centre who looks capable of playing either position at senior level. A couple of years spent learning behind Matt Toomua (and under Aaron Mauger) could see Umaga catapulted into the first team at Welford Road.

..and now it's rumoured he's joining Pau ( no, not T'Pau - that's either a Yorkshireman's Batman expletive or a British pop group led by singer Carol Decker which had a string of Top 40 hits in the UK in the late 1980s, most notably "China in Your Hand" and "Heart and Soul.)strawclearer wrote:There's talk in the French press that Steffon Armitage is close to signing for Lyons...
[On parle dans la presse française que Steffon Armitage est proche de signer pour Lyon. Cela va bouleverser les ravageurs!]
According to the Coventry Telegraph, Pau (who returned to the top flight of French rugby this season after a nine-year absence) are bankrolled by petrol giants Total. The paper says if the latest rumours are correct, the financial and lifestyle attractions of the south of France have trumped caps and international legacy in the flanker’s thinking.
Dai Young will be pleased!

He's probably going down to the Southern Hemisphere - which is a pity because the SH is on it's way up here!RagingBull wrote:Don't know sounds like he wants more money than Tigers where willing to part with.Spicer wrote: We are losing a hot prospect. Where is he going?

I'm told he will be going somewhere with deep pockets prepared to give him a senior contract on an absurd amount of money for someone with no experience, far more than it would be sensible for us to consider.
If you think about teams with those levels of resources I don't suppose your list would be tou long if you were to put one together.

Trouble is he has a name which has a big rugby draw, 17 years old hasn't played above A league rugby to many things can happen for us to be offering a big contract to and sets a tough market for the future in terms of negotiations with academy players. He isn't a Ford yet.

Uamga said in TRP (may 01?) he wanted to explore other things.
