12 in a row

Post by ellis9 »

It has been pretty quiet and not much said about it and maybe because it is an inevitablity but Tigers have reached a 12th consecutive Premiership Semi Final.

I don't care what anyone says, that is some achievement in itself.

Well done to all of the players and coaches on keeping such an incredible feat going.

Did post this on the Team v Worcester thread:

"Congratulations to the players and management on yet another play-off place!
Sorry wasn't able to be there and would guess any bonus point win is a good win!!"

Agreed!

Great achievement in what is a season of major change, we have clung on by the skin of our teeth at times, but this makes the result all the better.

Apart from the All-Blacks, and that's just rugby....

A great feat of course but it pales into insignificance if we don't win the damn thing.

I'd have Tigers at 5000-1 if they actually played the All Blacks, so basically that means they're not going to win doesn't it, hang on......

Yes. Of. Course. They. Are.

Achieved at a time when all teams have access to more funds, and have increasingly competitive squads - well done Tigers.
It also maintains the proud record of being the only Prem club to always qualify for the top European competition. :smt023

It's certainly interesting that we consider not getting a home SF somewhat of a failure (perhaps more accurately a 'non-success' rather than a failure), whereas others come, do well and go. The measure of Saracen's success is not that they've bought it (a plausible even if not wholly accurate accusation), but that they've sustained success (so far).

Yes, we've not won as many trophies as we might have done but no one else comes close to our record. People forget the other similar statistic - English clubs have been in the European Club Competition (whatever its name has been) 19 times and only one team have been in all of them. That's why we have the worst record of any team in the second tier competition - never won a game: dreadful!

Agreed, Dicky p. Not that long ago, we played London Irish in the final. Now where are they. Relegated. Where are we? Stil up there.
A magnificent achievement.

London Irish don't have and never had the financial or logistical tools to compete with the top 4 or 6 teams in the AP. Heritage and previous success also plays a huge part in attracting good players, a good base of supporters decent coaches (although you could have fooled me at times over the last few years). Actually, LI's home support was right up there in the top attendances in the AP, although it has dropped off significantly this season.

Apart from one very good, and one not too bad season when they entered the fray, they've struggled and but for LW would have probably gone down last year. Or at least, been squabbling over relegation with Falcons.

You can't compare the two teams, there is a gulf between them in terms of clout both on and off the pitch.

Actually, since they were taken over by a consortium of London-based Irish businessmen, Irish are now well funded, and have great facilities at Hazelwood.
I think they will come back stronger.

The point is, teams come and go, and in that context, Tigers record is second to none.

Worth noting that since the introduction of a league system, the following teams have been ever-present:

Tigers
Gloucester
Wasps
Bath

That in itself is an achievement. 28 unbroken years dining at the top table.

Of those 28 years, we have been champions in over a third of them. That is quite simply an incredible record.

In that time, we have NEVER finished below 6th, thereby never failing to qualify for the European Cup. Nobody else can boast that. That is also amazing.

Since 2004, we have never finished lower than fourth, qualifying for the play offs every single years. An astonishing record. And of those 12 years, 9 of them led us to finals.

You know what... maybe we should be celebrating our proud record more than we do.
