This weekends other games

Post by jgriffin »

Saracens up against Bath but the ref (GG) is allowing Saracens to get over the ball without releasing tackle and diving on. Watson looks classy. Penalty to Safs for their LH hinging....what are TJs for.....entire defensive line offside, no flag. LH does it again, pen to Bath,,,obviously the alternating a method. Embarrassing though, Bath are utter pants and with GG giving Safs free rein at breakdown to arrive from anywhere, a cricket score is on the cards.
Watching the Edinburgh game, they have a real ref, Leighton Hodges. At one point he told both sets of props what they were doing naughtily and to desist. Also nice to see TMO used very precisely, and to support a correct spot by the ref.

GG manages one of the poorer decisions. High ball, Goode going for it, Watson too. As Watson homes in to challenge, Ashton looks at him and backs in, knocking him sideways so he stumbles and falls beneath Goode, hitting his feet. Goode lands on his shoulder and head. In the replays it is obvious that Ashton has caused Watson to half-fall and be unable to control his trajectory. Watson gets a red card, Ashton nothing.

Bath have imploded. Watson shown a red card for dangerous taking the man out in the air and now Cook sin binned for spear tackle.

Usually happy to see Bath lose, but almost feeling a bit sorry for them. Thought the cards whilst harsh were nonetheless fair. I really don't like Ashton though. I really hope EJ doesn't pick Ashton he is a really nasty piece of work.

Harsh perhaps, but correct red card for Watson. You could say it was deserved following his reaction too - when Cockers spoke to a 4th official like that he got a 10 week ban did he not.

Cook has been lucky to escape with a yellow too - very enthusiastic use of the boot a few times before his warning.

Long ban for Watson and Cook to be cited if there is any justice.

Don't think we'll be facing Dave Wilson in our last match either!

Disagree utterly re Watson - Ashton's deliberate shoulder was a major factor.

Ref suspected Ashton had had involvement (not an unreasonable suspicion) but TMO told him otherwise.

Maybe (he still was going to struggle to compete before he ran - there was no push - into Ashton), but his response to the officials was unacceptable and should be punished appropriately.

The deliberate 'getting in the way without it being obstruction' of the weasel Cashton was typical but I don't think it will save Watson. Pity because he's an honest player but I don't think that counts any more.

Possibly as well that bench managed to restrain him when he was apparently making beeline for 4th official.

To answer the question, no Farrell isn't having a good game. Not stood out and not had the attacking threat, as usual.

I have always liked Watson but his reaction alone is a red card offence. He walked straight up to Matt Carley and said :censored: joke whilst being restrained after lots of other swearing as he left the field.

Season over for him, I'm afraid. Not sure if Cook make contact with Vunipola's head - if he did, might be the same. Dave Wilson will be lucky to avoid a 10 week ban.

What position did Mike Ford play? Scrum half? May need to get his boots dusted off at this rate!
