Miles Benjamin retired

Post by ellis9 »

Tigers have announced that Miles Benjamin has retired due to his knee injury.

A brilliant player with pace and knew where the try line was.

Always sad when a young (27) professional sportsman is forced to retire ahead of time. Here's hoping the future is good for him.

As Crowson says " Benjamin becomes the fourth wing option to leave the club at the end of the season with Gonzalo Camacho and Christian Loamanu not being offered new contracts and Niki Goneva signing for Newcastle Falcons."

it is sad strawclearer..

Also, from a tigers point of view, 3 of those have played precious little rugby for us in their time here for various reasons...

Sad news indeed of a very talented player especially in attack mode. I'm sure all posters will join me in wishing him all the best for the future.

When we signed him I really thought he had the attacking potential to be an England regular but unfortunately we never really saw the best of him bar a few great tries..All the best for the future Miles :smt023

Really Really disappointing to hear Miles is having to retire, had bags of potential but injury plagued his time at Tigers, I wish him good luck in his future endeavors

+1

It must have been a frustrating time for Miles. Disappointing not to be able to continue with his playing career, but as a relatively young man, he has time to flourish in his next venture. Good luck!

As an aside - Miles follows Richard Blaze as early retirees. Mike Williams is broken again. We've been really unlucky with ex-Wuss players.

Sad news

I was really excited when we signed him as he had loads of potential great a great addition for the club and eventually England. We saw flashes of his brilliance, such a shame an unfortunate run of injuries followed, with this been the last.

Good luck Miles in where ever the future now takes you :smt023

I echo all of the above. A quality player who's only been able to show us glimpes of his potential.

Good luck to him wherever life takes him from here.

Sad news.

I wonder if this frees up funds for another signing or if they used it already knowing it was coming

I, like many others, saw great promise in him when we signed him from Worcester. It's a huge shame that we won't see him in a Tigers shirt again but a greater shame that the poor guy won't be able to take the rugby field again.

I hope the club can continue to support him, in whatever he decides to do next.

All the best Benji!

Shame he has to retire although seems odd that it's taken the club such a long time to work out that he was never going to be fit again :smt017

That's one way of seeing it. I think it's a testament to how the club won't give up on a player until they've explored all the avenues.

I, with many fans, was excited at the prospect of seeing Miles perform his magic in a Tigers shirt but he's had such a terrible run of serious injuries. I can only wish him the best of luck in whatever his next move will be.

Player retirement through injury will rarely involve the club directly until after the decision has been made. Usually, the decision will be made by the player in consultation with a specialist medical professional. A club releasing a player because they don't think they will recover from injury (LI & Andy Goode, Tigers & Mickey Young) is a different matter.
