Glad to see a bit of common sense being used in the end.

Like the suggestion of Marler buying Lee a beer! All in all probably the best way to settle it rather than letting the profesional complainers cloud the issue by wheeling out their soapboxes and spoiling rational dialogue.

Tyzot, yes Hartley was warned and then got punished in the form of a red card and then faced further punishment afterwards and rightly so. Is that not similar to Marler?

Sorry biffer but I really do believe there is an acceptable line. Baa baa black sheep is one side of the line and the holocaust is on the other. I do understand that some want to lump them together but they are nutters (in my opinion) whatever their race.

I understand that, the difficulty is that everyone's line can be in a different place, and those lines are arbitrary, not absolute. When they're arbitrary, they can be moved, and when there's a lot of movement it can lead on to other societal behaviours which can result in oppression. I'm not for a second saying that will automatically happen, it's a huge mish mash of influences and pressures, but the use of language is one of those and it's why there has to be some care and thought about what is acceptable and what isn't, and why the level of what's acceptable depends very much on the platform and exposure of any particular instance.

But equally people shouldn't have to tippy toe around for fear of upsetting somebody's hair trigger sensitivities, especially when they take it upon themselves to be sensitive on somebody else's behalf and even go out of their way to do so. Some of the claims to offence really are ridiculous in any instance.

ellis9 Your point was that both were heat of the moment. If earlier in the game Marler had been warned about using that sort of description to a player then the cases would have been similar - but he was not and so they were not similar.
