Re: Pearce to Sale
Very disappointed to have confirmation that he is leaving. Whenever this lad appears on the park he seems to inject something into the game. He will do very well at Sale and I feel he will take some replacing.
Re: Pearce to Sale
Good Luck to the lad, he has served tigers better than they have served him, yet another case of one who got away.
Re: Pearce to Sale
I am so annoyed at this. We are losing a great young talent and keeping two 30 year olds in break like a twig Fonua and No gain Crane, both of which he has outplayed this season.
Re: Pearce to Sale
I cannot understand this!
One of our brightest younger players we've got and serving him up for others. Wrong call on so many levels.

Fonua was under contract anyway so was really unlikely to go anywhere. I've not seen anything that says Crane has been given a new deal. Do you know something we don't?rich1576 wrote:I am so annoyed at this. I wish we'd kept him and let Crane go

Re: Pearce to Sale
Has it crossed anybody's mind that he may have wanted to leave for whatever reason?
We can surmise, as with Tommy Bell that's its for more first team rugby in which case I would say good luck to them. It's a shame they didn't back themselves to earn a regular start at Tigers.
Of course he may be going for a multitude of other reasons, one of which might be that Tigers coaching staff don't think he'll make the grade or fit in to the 'game plan'.
Over the years I don't think there are many who've left that I would like to see back. Although I might be prepared to eat my words if Mssr's Parling, Waldron and Salvi lift a title at Exeter!

If you don't go in hard it's not a tackle it's an insult.

Re: Pearce to Sale
We don't know his reasons, and perhaps the Tigers did want to keep him. There might be something on RL's rugby hour tomorrow!
He has been a very good impact player and I wish him all the best.

Re: Pearce to Sale
I guess we will never know the reason behind the move but I can't help but note that people still describe him as a raw talent, he still loses the ball too often in contact, runs away from support etc. Why has he not turned into a more polished performer?

Re: Pearce to Sale
It makes sense that it comes down to two things.
1. He's not getting enough game time, which has probably been promised at Sale
2. Tigers probably need to get rid of an 8 and unfortunately it just turns out that his contract is due up where others aren't.
He fits in well with the type of game that Mauger wants to play, more than Crane will ever do.
Just very disappointing that Tigers couldn't find a way of keeping him.

I wish him the very best of luck at Sale. Our loss is their gain.

Relative lack of game time?drc_007 wrote:I guess we will never know the reason behind the move but I can't help but note that people still describe him as a raw talent, he still loses the ball too often in contact, runs away from support etc. Why has he not turned into a more polished performer?
Four Premiership/European starts last season, and only a handful of bench appearances. With the four starts he's had this season as well that's not a massive amount of time to settle at Premiership level.
Some would say that with the ball-in-hand impact he had shown in his time at Tigers he'd have been worth investing in, but Tigers aren't big on investing in players if they aren't already the finished article - in most cases it's a 'sink or swim' policy, with only a handful actually given time to develop and improve.
