Just thought it was interesting/ironic.Just not good enough. Something needs to happen with the patterns of play. It is so basic, lets have some exciting ideas in their coaches. We haven't developed over the last 3 years.
Maybe time for some fresh input. I'd get a Southern Hemisphere backs consultant.

Posted a couple of days ago that my Stains-in-laws believe, as do their mates, that the coaching at Stains has gone stale. They also think that AM/SH are getting a reality check. Can't fault that one!

There's a school of thought that that coaches struggle to bring in new ideas after a period of time.
Players get used to coaches and vice versa which can be a block to change. Without change the opposition soon goes past. Smart coaches work out how to nullify opposition tactics and expose the weaknesses.
Very few coaches can sustain progress Alec Ferguson and Arsene Venger being the exceptions. Rugby is rather more complicated because the laws get changed and the ref's have much more influence.
Even SCW seemed to struggle after winning the world cup.

I think some of the best coaches are immune to being blinded by past loyalties, Ferguson and Wenger as mentioned, many an excellent player discarded down the years for many different reasons in the pursuit of their goal.
Ferguson in particular was no-nonsense but he got it right more than he got it wrong which is the important thing!
I watched the drooling this very morning over the positioning of Australian coaches currently at the top of English sport and what sets them apart IMO is their honesty, they say it how they see it.
Too much political :censored: elsewhere!

I think coaches do get stale dealing with the same group of players over a long period.
Perhaps this is our problem this year in the pack? Blaze retired in his mid 20's and is still really young, how realistically can he be expected to properly coach/motivate an elite group of rugby players who probably think they know at least as much as him?
Presumably Cockers is doing less coaching these days and even his message must be getting repetitive by now. Yes I really think it is time for a new specialist forwards coach, someone with a few slightly greyer hairs, a bit of nous and grit that would fit in well at Tigers.
I always think about the Lions videos showing Jim Telfer coaching the forwards, I reckon we could do with a bit of that at present; not sure who the answer is though!! What's Johno up to?!

Problem is, Saints started average and they're still average - but strangely still knocking on the door of top 4... I'm not sure whether this gives Tigers supporters hope or despair.
Tigers are likely to pass them on their way down the table...

We're above Saints. Makes it unlikely that we will pass them on their way down the tableRoly wrote:Problem is, Saints started average and they're still average - but strangely still knocking on the door of top 4... I'm not sure whether this gives Tigers supporters hope or despair.

Re: From Saints unoffy
Saints have had a problem since they lost Manoa. Having him to lead the back row makes it easier for King to get his troops into attack. Blunt force from the front 5 does not seems to cut it anymore as the Tigers have found out. You can't go spreading the ball around until the hard yards have been made and the opposition's defensive structure has been bent out of shape.

Re: From Saints unoffy
when a coach has been in situ for a long time, like Sir Alex Ferguson used to do at Manchester United you have to regularly break apart your team and rebuild, that doesn't mean everyone but at the core leadership positions, bringing in fresh younger hungrier players is a must or you stagnate.
The other way to go is to change the coach every 3 or 4 years...
