refs need to be reminded of their responsibility regarding their positioning, the Ref against Treviso stopped a Tigers attack remember by getting in the way of a pass

Deliberately pushing the ref is a straight red for me.

And you don't think they do and that accidents occasionally happen? Barnes was positioned just fine, as was Whitehouse.

not a big thing just a gentle reminder to them that's all, it could be easy for them to forget momentarily

Maybe he should've adopted the Dan Cole method of ref reminders, he wouldn't forget that in a hurry!

26 +2 for bad record, then halved for guilty plea and apology.

Unlike Neil Back he did not claim mistaken identity!!
Still keeping the faith!

Just to be clear, what would you remind Whitehouse and Barnes of, seeing as their positioning was correct? "Just a gentle reminder, make sure you're in the correct position, just like you were right at that point".

The ref has to position himself in the best position to adjudicate.
Player can't push him out of the way.
Players will inadvertently run into the ref which is part and parcel of the game - it's the ref's job to try and avoid getting into the play itself. If they collide, too bad - play on or scrum the only consequences.

Barnes was generous, but wrong in not sending him off and the ban reflects that this is a serious offence with a punishment tariff higher than most red card offences.
