Female player dies of head injury

Post by fleabane »

No proper details of how caused, but a tragedy, in the real sense of the word.

The implcation that this was a result of repeated concussion is hardly substantiated. Nonetheless as you say a tragedy. Has to be taken very seriously.
Still keeping the faith!

Indeed and a sad reminder that rugby can be a dangerous game at all levels, not just the muscle bound pros.
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.

She was teaching my 4 yr old grand-daughter to read. She was tackled apparently, went off then collapsed on the touch line.

She was obviously attended to as well as possible but the decision was made to call the Air ambulance.

She was flown to Torbay Hospital (Torquay) and was put on life support. After 24 hours the decision was made to switch it off.

At local rugby games a couple of days later a minute's silence was planned but the family asked for a minute of applause instead.

There have been several threads on head injuries so I thought there might be interest in this research.

Another publication that might be of interest.

More work suggesting link between head injuries and long term links to Alzheimers disease.

BBC TV news article on concussion in schools rugby this morning. I think the sports teacher interviewed said they had 20 boys concussed playing rugby, also sounds like some simply continued playing in the match. I find the number surprising, but I'm not surprised to hear boys carried on playing. In my experience if the lad says he is OK they are allowed to continue, the adults need to take more responsibility.
