It's a bit of a shocker that we have no obvious choices for captain. Every potential candidate seems to have big weaknesses.

I think Itoje is the future, not sure he is the present.

Maybe Jones needs to go with no fixed captain, and select the captain game by game. Or maybe he has a squad captain that isn't guaranteed a start place, and chooses is captain from a group of leaders?

It's going to be interesting. Maybe Itoje is the best option, now and for the future?

Isn't it about time that this non-subject was eliminated from the page please Mr Moderator.

Not part of the moderator's job. Their main job is to ensure a degree of civility and good manners. If it is a non-subject (which personally I do not think it is) it will die a death due to lack of posts and slowly fall down the list.

You are entitled to think that it is a non-subject, but to think that this entitles you to ask for the topic to be closed? Some might feel that that was being high handed and arrogant. I couldn't possibly comment.

Itoje is the first English player I have seen for some time with real presence...

It is a bit sad there are so few genuine candidates...

Please no!

A bit too petulant for me. I think he lacks maturity.

A Kiwi thug as England captain? :smt005 I dare say he's being overrated a tad with pundits telling us that if only he'd been at the WC we'd have won don't you know. I would be angry that this would mean Hartley will be picked over TY every game despite there being no clear difference between the two, but we all know Dylan won't be playing very often with his record.

I find it amazing that he is being considered....

It's not just his disciplinary record, which is appalling by anyones standards. It's also that he is not that good...

My Stains friends tell me that, despite their troubles, they dont feel they miss him that much...

For me, Eddie Jones should concentrate on nothing more than picking the best XV without limiting himself by selecting a captain. Pick the best Xv then chose a captain. Unless you are nailed on in your position, it's pointless and I dont see anybody currently nailed on in any position.
Less is more....
