Congratulations Tigers on a solid, determined win. Of course I have a complaint or two against the ref but that wouldn't have altered the result had he ruled differently.

To be honest, I am quite pleased with Stade's display. The tries were good tries and if the defence was poor, the attacking spirit was there.

We won't go very far in this edition of the cup but there is plenty to be learned. Upwards !

On an unrelated note : I live 600 yards as the crow flies from one of the :censored: attacks and I must say this kind of stuff begins to be really annoying. I hope and pray that they don't cancel next week match over here. Well the upper lip is stiff, and if the police and ER cars were not making a horrible racket around I'd be in bed, sleeping.

Great game, Tigers really beginning to develop something. BOC, Williams and McCaffrey were massive (although control at the back was a bit pants)

McCaffrey is becoming difficult to leave out. I wonder if it's worth experimenting with O'Connor moving to 8 for attacking scrums with McCaffrey at 8 for opposition ones?

You would have to say that on the basis of the performance that has to be 1st choice back row moving forward. Williams is wasted in the row but with Slater Fitzgerald Burrow Kitchener and Dr Chaves there is plenty of options. Worrying about Croft but hopefully just a twinge from the amount he has played

What is all this talk about Stade Francais? According to Gary the Prat on BBC Radio 4 Sports this morning, Tigers opened their European campaign last night by beating Sale 33-20!


What a shame that such a small crowd turned out to watch what was probably the best game seen at Welford Road for years. There were acres of empty seats near me in the Crumby. Do we really need the new stand if we can't fill the ground for important matches such as this?

I think a certain percentage of tickets have to be allocated to the away team.

A good game, really enjoyed it, but there is a lot more to come from this side. Very excited about the season ahead.
Tigertone is right about the crowd however, was lots of space on the terrace and loads of empty seats everywhere. Dare I say the ticket prices are now too high? For the capacity we have they should be a couple of £ per ticket lower, and the new idea of upping the prices by £2 per ticket in the week before the match is frankly commercialism gone mad - taking the proverbial! There are many of us that can't always commit too far in advance for games, especially games on Sunday's and that's virtually all we have up to Xmas.
Yes we will no doubt sell out for the Xmas fixture, Saints and possibly if we get a home quarter final in Europe, but wouldn't it be great to see near full capacity crowds all season, just by being a little more savy/fair with the ticket pricing.

I don't know if the quotas have changed but it used to be 15% for the pool matches and 25% for the quarter finals.

Also hope all the Glasgow fans in Paris for tomorrow's game are safe.

I also think the club are still 'double allocating' tickets with the new stand not yet finished. So those who so wish can still sit elsewhere in the ground.

Whilst not wishing to take anything from Soggy's comments there were other factors affecting the turnout last night. The weather forecast was pretty dire with rain and strong gusting winds and a low temperature. With late kick offs travel can be difficult for some, bearing in mind the distances some fans travel. Finally the game was on TV anyway.

As has already been mentioned by Ze Stade Fan, a lot of French fans spent a fair bit of their rugby money following the national team in the RWC too.

So, get dressed up in loads of layers, spend a couple of hours travelling / queuing for transport and sit in a windy cold stadium dreaming of a warm drink or pint you can't really afford or don't want to queue for OR take a stroll down to the boozer, get a nice warm seat in full view of the TV and sup your favourite brew while watching all the replays and close-ups of the action and then stagger home wearing your best beer overcoat to keep you warm. Hang on, anyone want to buy a season ticket?

The Racing 92 v Glasgow match has been called off, according to the BBC here.

Yeah, all events cancelled but most fans travelled yesterday and were in Paris last night. Heard a few stories of people being locked inside bars and told not to leave by the Police. In any other circumstances a Glaswegians dream but not so much last night.
