Maybe he'll point out that, at the time of the offence, he was clearly not wearing a shirt with a Tiger badge on it and as a result of these mitigating circumstances get off scot free!

Nice comfy bed and a hearty breakfast required. Top notch hospitality at Coventry Wasps.

Re: Gopperth citing
I wonder what the citing panel saw that turned it into a 3 week ban when the ref saw it as a sin bin offence?
This isn't a dig at Mr. W, but he saw it, the AR saw it and the TMO looked at it and showed the incident from several angles at full speed and in slow motion
I understand citing when the referee appears not to see an incident, but when he has dealt with it, should that be an end?
To avoid a duplicating the debate already on another thread, I thought it was red from the terrace and later watching it TV. However, thats my opinion and there can is no objective fact here. The punishment is at best an interpretation of the event and the laws, and at worst, just varying opinions.

The citing officer can ask for it to be looked at if they feel that the yellow card may not have been sufficient. In this case, the citing officer thought it should have been a red card and referred it to a disciplinary.

Thanks for that. I understand that process, but if there were three officials on the day (ref, AR and TMO) who had a good long look, is it not just a 4th opinion of the citing officer? Does this undermine the officials? Does the citing officer have to justify the role? Did the player just plead guilty to get a shorter sentence?Tigerbeat wrote:The citing officer can ask for it to be looked at if they feel that the yellow card may not have been sufficient. Despite not agreeing with the decision on the day, I would just like to see the final whistle be an end of matters. I accept that unseen serious offences can be a different matter.
Re: Gopperth citing
Following yesterday's disciplinary hearing, where Jimmy Gopperth was given a three week ban for punching or striking, contrary to law 10.4(a) during Leicester Tigers vs Wasps on November 1, Wasps will be appealing the length of the sanction. The appeal hearing with be held on Thursday.
The club is unable to comment further while the appeal process is underway.

Re: Gopperth citing
Well some belated common sense exists at last, though the ban should have been longer.
Re: Gopperth citing
Not all appeals succeed, it is just as likely they could increase it to the three
month ban it deserves.
But don't hold your breath!
