Andy Goode Retires Through Injury

Post by TomWeston »

Good luck, Goodey, you were generally always good to watch, especially when sin-binned against us!

Sad way for his career to end.
Good player, nice bloke & great ambassador.

We could do worst than offer him a position. His experience could be beneficial all round. Not thinking all ex players should be offered positions as that is not practical, but he does have form! Look how he played at Wasps when we had passed him by!

I thought we tried to sign him but he chose Wasps rather than us?

Doesn't say what the injuries were? Did he drop some frozen pies on his feet by any chance? :smt002
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

IMO one of the greats, not immortalised by the press but a total controller of most of the games he played in and twice the player Ford will ever be.

Swansea (Whites) 1988-95

Top player, sad news.

Any word on what the persistent injuries were? I can't remember him missing many games for Wasps last season or the season before. He also turned down a coaching job at Wasps (following their signing of new first choice FH Jimmy Gopperth) to continue playing with L Irish, this doesn't seem like a decision by someone who has persistent injuries to me? I wonder if he doesn't fit in with the new coaching regime at Lon Irish? Was he signed before they were appointed? Perhaps he has been told he would be injury cover only and not play?

Regardless, great player and a sad way to go out.

His contract was presumably signed before he joined Irish so terms fixed. Your point about injury cover would only be valid if his contract was on a fee for matches played basis.

He was a great player!

He had, I think, two operations earlier in the summer. Not sure but I think shoulder.

Totally underated at Tigers - highest points scorer over many seasons, but didn't think he ever got the proper credit. Good luck.
I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.
